I am tolerant of homosexuals, all races...but I am also tolerant of racist and homophobic viewpoints.
In a recent poll done on african americans, it appears that a large portion of african americans hold racist beleifs toward whites. A renowned black man even publicly stated racist beleifs toward white people in the United States. Furthermore, there are also white racists, but they don't go public as often for fear of being attacked. The double standard.
So if there are racists in this country, should we not protect them both equally as moral viewpoints under the law? as long as the racist does not promote violence, I see no reason why the racist should be attacked. Because he has a different moral value system than us? different views/perceptions?
I think racists should be just as tolerated as homosexuals. I mean, they are equally as controversial. It is well known that the christian right blatantly declares homosexuality an amoral sin.
Racists have equally valid rights.

why attack a racist because he beleives one race to be inferior or superior to another?
there are some people in greenpeace that beleive owels are superior to people...
But they don't get attacked for this view. So, just because a view does not correspond to what we think is right, we shoud attack it?
then all christians should attack atheists? and all religions should attack other religions for being morally wrong...
It doesn't make sense. And this is why, if we are going to tolerate all viewpoints, we should tolerate racist ones too as long as it promotes no violence.

1st answerer..
exactly, so since its unfair, should we not support racist views as long as they do not promote violence? instead of only supporting some racist views based on race, which itself would be racist?

joy full, yea....but they are allowed to be harrassed and attacked...they are publicly attacked in the media, and for example, don imus was placed on leave because of a racist slur. This is not very tolerant.

missy and grumples...
its funny how you ignored my whole type except that one place where I equated homosexuality to racism.
But to clarify....why is racism not liked? because its concidered amoral, for one...That same premise follows suit with homosexuality for right wing christians......both are concidered amoral by certain parties.
But racism doesn't lower someone's self esteem unless the person might beleive the racist viewpoint is correct, which would mean the victim would be racist as well......why would they not view it as a hilarious example of ignorance and racism?
homosexuality can be very hurtful to those that are christian, seeing it as a falling from grace and a sin...hurting self esteem, especially if it happens in a family...can cause great tension.
Basically = in different moral systems, both are seen as amoral, so they are both equatable in this sense.

missy...
its not ok to harass and beat a homosexual....
but its ok to have a racist harassed and beaten.....especially by the media and special interest groups? especially one that is white, and not a black racist? thats ok. well, if its that weird, why not just have all racists protected and then we would have no harassment or beating or any double standard.

o, I noticed someone asked if I was racist. In all honesty, I am a racist.
Not because I think blacks or mexicans or whatever are inferior. But simply because I recognize, deep inside, that I would be against, for example, a black man marrying my daughter (hypothetical, I don't have a daugther, im 20), and I would descriminate if a bunch of black guys in the United SATES with hip hop music went by my house and parked nearby....(this is not racist, but its descriminatory and prejudiced)...
So in all honesty, i am a little bit racist, and I think all people are to a certain extent, even if they don't want to admit it, and even if the yare not conciously aware (some psychological tests have proven that you can be subconciouslly 'racist')..
think about it....everybody is prejudiced...let me give you an example...CNN...everybody on CNN is prejudiced of anyone from FOX news, because they are very conservative....and vice versa.....
I am sure no one at CNN would invite O'reilly to a part

party....This is discrimination, and I think pretty much EVERYBODY DOES this....and perhaps the ones that say they don't....are most probably the biggest racists because they are the hypocrits.

this is prejudice based on your beleifs....extrme ultra liberals vs. extreme crazy conservatives.
they are also racist, becaues they concentrate when a white man says a racist slur, but not a black man. Also, they cover black racist slurs, but not mexican ones. And by labeling people who distrust african americans 'racist'....they are being racist by assuming they distrust them because they are black....when it could be the african american culture in the United States.......

well, when blacks do it, it's not looked at as being racist. Exactly as you said, double standard. Makes me sick. There are just as many black racists as whites.

Yes, double standards is exactly right. I am not racist or anything like that, but in my opinion, I think black people feel they have right to be racist towards whites because of the oppression they have suffered because of them in the past.
However, this does not make it right...
It's just WRONG to hate anyone for reasons they have no control over..
Like, for example,
Mr. White: I hate black people
Mr. Black: I hate white people
You automatically know who's going to being thrashed for saying that more-so than the other...
Ok, whatever people think about things like that I still don't think they should be so outspoken about it...
And I will have to pull you on your last comment, Christians think it is wrong yes, because it's against their religion (an opinion which I am completely against ), but what are the grounds for hating some people, nay, ALL people of a certain colour?
Interesting question though.
I still don't think they should be allowed to voice their opinions here there and everywhere,BECAUSE, if it was a normal part of life I guarantee you it would get out of hand, stretching the limits of their 'rights', resulting in hate groups and cults such as the KKK.

Are you being serious? If he just held that belief and that was it, I wouldn't mind but when those being racially discriminated against are being harrassed and beaten, BE THEY WHITE, BLACK OR PINK, that is where I have a problem with it.
Even if violence is taken out of the equation, racists still undermine others self worth and esteem so in answer to your question, no. Homosexuals and racists are not equally controversial - how can you compare the issue of homosexuality with racism and equate it???

most people claim to have been born gay,
you're not born a racist, that is an opinion or way of thinking you develop from parents, society etc.
just wondering, are you racist?
edit: missy just summed it up there. you can't compare the two!!
edit: to be honest, your question was too long so I scanned through it and decided that I would pick that point. I edited my answer in your last question (at least I think it was yours...)
edit: I don't understand though. how can you judge a person by ONLY the colour of their skin? I mean, were you raised to believe that they are the lesser beings because their skin colour isn't exactly like yours?
it scares me that you are 20 and think this way, as I am the same age and have a completely opposite viewpoint. I though that peoples opinions were evolving, but I guess not!

it is alway classed as racist when it is white against black. but hardly anything is said when a black person is racist towards a white person.
now im not a racist but that point is irritating.
a prime example is...and i am on nobodys side..
was in celebrity big brother. Jade was thrown out because it was said she was bahaving in a racist way towards shilpa shetty...an Indian. But when Jermaine Jackson called Jades mum "White trailer trash" it wasn't even mentioned. something was said about it at the end of the show but it hardly made a small box in the paper.
that is double standards

Who should they be protected from? Themselves?
Read the papers: the tree-huggers and owl-protectors ARE attacked and decried.
Christians are not "blatant", but homosexuallity IS a sin. Like cursing, not helping the poor or lame or sick...

They are protected under the law, it's called free speech. That's why you can see KKK rallies and parades, this is legal.
