The 'self' is what you are looking at from outside and your hope is that it is the same for others perceiving this 'self'. Problem is that the self is just an imagined thing and can not be seen. You try to convey it by talking about it or by acting in a certain way to create a picture of what this 'self' looks like to you.
When you are alone there is no need to act in this way so you are left with the reality that you must pretend that there is something there called a self. You use your imagination to build a picture of it and adorn it with strengths and weaknesses. These are either confirmed or denied when you enter into relation with other 'selves'.

It is the same self - the outward displays and expressions might change slightly, but I am the same person. Too tiring to try to be different things for different people, why waste the energy? They will either accept me or they will not.

I would rather have a few good friends who know me as I truly am than a stadium full of people who I've fooled into thinking I am something I am not.

Yes.

Ther is only one difference and that is the level of my loneliness.

When I am alone I know I am alone. Whe I am with others I try and be with others but at least in one sense I am still alone.

Philosophically, this is trying to be a social person, trying to be part of a society, trying to take Plato's Republic to a practical state. I see myself and see how myself becomes all that is around me. I do it often. I think a lot of people in here do.

So, I see me and my loneliness, and I see me and my loneliness and others and my loneliness. It is all me. I see that. But the loneliness is still just mine.

If that make sense then I have answered your question. Otherwise I have answered my own and thought it was yours. I know I have answered somebody's question here.

The answer is yes.

nobody acts the same to everyone. I'm not the same self with my parents as I am with friends. everyone is like that. and we're really our true selves when we are alone

Why yes Lucky, it is. I'm sure it's not the same as others see though. But I am satisfied with all three at the moment. peace

Hardly ever. My alone time is inwardly focused whether it be reading, writing, meditating, goofing, just whatever I feel like doing. whereas when I'm with someone my attention is more on them or what we're doing together.

Not exactly...I don't wear lounging clothes out in public and the self at home is bored out of her wits.

I think everybody is different when in company of others... When we're alone we feel us truly, cause we don't need to show anything to anybody... we are ourselves without trying to impress somebody...
