I've known some atheists, some were pretty smart, but only a few were arrogant enough to think they were smarter than believers. They just could not believe, too many unanswered questions that they could not or would not take on faith alone.
Just like any true Christian will not make the judgement that they are smarter than an atheist, since judgements like that go against Christ's teachings.
But both sides of the argument have the occasional troglodyte who just has to be "right" no matter what. I try to avoid those people.
You either believe, or you do not. I don't want someone to be false with me either way!

Well being an atheist I do not think I am smarter than people who do believe in God. In fact I do not see many others I know to be atheists thinking they are smarter than people in orthodox religions so I do not believe that your question really applies but if I had to give an answer I would say they think they are smarter because they choose not to follow the norm and have their own opinions and thought concerning the creation of the world. It could also be that restricting your life according to what a book tells you seems stupid to them and thus they automatically look down on those who do so.

What Einstein said and what atheist's believe have no correlation. They are just facts about situations. Many atheists may be helping resolve many things; we just haven't heard about it, or their religious orientation or lack of are not stated in the media when such an event happens.
Example: Gates of Microsoft is very rich and gives much money away. (He has it to do so with). What is his religious thinking? I don't know and don't care. Religion is a separate entity from such things. It would be nice if all people were believers, but then again, that is my bias. And I would want all people to believe the way I do, but again, that is unfair to those who have other beliefs than mine.
God gave all people brains to use. He didn't say that, to use these brains, they first must believe in Him. He did state what it would take to enter the kingdom of heaven, but that was about riches, not wisdom.
But again, these are my beliefs. As a friend of mine said, one time when I said "but it says in the Bible," and he responded, "but I don't believe in the Bible." Touche.
Ironically, when I was in Intensive Care and dying, he was praying for my recovery. Nice, huh? So, are atheists really atheists? Another question for another day. (smile)

Atheists are generally arrogant people. They believe that they know the truth about life, but they never really analyze anything.
If you tell them a person can fling a rubber band over 110ft they wouldn't believe it until they SEE it. But there is people that can do it.
Atheists just don't get that. They have to be babied and be shown something to believe it. Just like the concept of God. Sorry Atheists, you cannot SEE GOD.

Perhaps you base this opinion on the arguments where Christian fundamentalists and atheists battle most harshly, like science in schools. While, in general, atheists don't believe themselves to be smarter than believers, they tend to take exception to people forcing their beliefs upon the general populace and using horrible logical fallacies to support their points.
Science currently does, at no point, exclude the possibility for a god or religion. While Atheists don't believe there is one, we also cannot deride others for believing. Nor do I, personally, concern myself with what others believe just so long as they don't try to impose their beliefs upon me and countless others who don't hold to their beliefs.
Furthermore, the scientific community is made up of people of all religions as well as atheists, so to claim that we owe our advancements and discoveries to any religion or to claim that any are excluded is false. We owe a lot to those people in the white coats, no matter what religion (or lack thereof) they follow.

Most people now-a-days do NOT believe in the God of the Bible (also includes Muslims and the Koran and Jews and the Torah and all the rest).
Modern man had come to believe himself superior to the "ignorant" people who believe in a Superior Being. So, in that sense, most people are atheists.

we at the instant are not smarter because of the fact we do not have faith in god and fundies are stupid because of the fact they do, they're stupid because of the fact they constantly tutor their stupidity. some generations in the past human beings concept thunder replaced into an indignant god. finally technology proves the unknown. What you think of or doubt at the instant are not proofs, in basic terms critiques. This planet won't be random or a mistake, yet you do not understand how many tries there have been in the previous it have been given splendid.

Maybe a lot of the philosophical atheists think that there's a kind of scape-goat mentality to religions as opposed to where they're on their own with it all. distainfulness?
What i have noticed is that the ones who are loud about their atheism sound a bit desperate like it's just cooler or something to be that way.

Most of us atheists hold no such view.
I think people's reasons for belief in God are largely emotional and cultural rather than as a result of lack of intelligence.

That's as broad a generalization as saying that most "believers" think they are more worthy of salvation than anyone else.
