Ok, so my room mate broke a dish in the dishwasher as he was loading it, and after he took out the big pieces, he ran it. The thing stopped about 3 minutes in and started making this grinding noise and the water isn't draining. I assume some glass got caught down there, but it's this half size dishwasher from GE and I'm not really sure about what goes where in the dishwasher. How can I fix this myself? It keeps making the grinding noise and not draining every time I try to run it, even after I cleaned out some more glass. I don't want to pay for a repairman.

See if there is a screen covering the pump inlet. If there is you might try removing that and poking around in there with a skinny screwdriver to see if there is anything you can dislodge. My guess is that the broken fragments are inside the tight clearance places of the pump and are not removable so there is a repairman bill in your future.

it sounds like some glass got past the strainers

remove the strainers under the wash arm, you may find more glass
if you have a wet-vac try sucking out as much as you can

replace the strainers and run it again
repeat this if necessary

otherwise you can look under the dishwasher and try to see which line the glass may have gotten into
you may be able to remove this line and remove any small glass pieces
