me and my family plan to go to disney world this summer. i've checked out the website but i want some ideas from people that have gone. we have a family of 5 and we were thinking about doing the 6 night 7 day package.. not sure yet though.

what are some good packages? rides? things to do? and how much in advance should we book it?

also we were thinking that while we're down there we should check out sea world too. good idea?

With a family of 5, I suggest staying at the Polynesian resort. The rooms are huge, big enough for 5, the food is great, especially at the Kona Cafe, and you're on the monorail, which will save you gas money. Your looking at a price of at least $500 per night, however, because of the time of the year. Don't stay at any of the cheap resorts (All-Star Music, Movies, ans Sports, and Pop culture). They would be too small for a family of five, unless you consider a suite at the All-Star resorts. They are 520 square feet, and have 2 baths, a kitchenette, a living room area with a pull-out bed, and a bedroom. The Grosvenor is the least expensive hotel in the Downtown Disney area.

A 7-day park hopper with water park option is about $300 per person.

I would go to your local book retailer (Barnes and Noble, or Borders) and get two very informative books: Birnbaum's Walt Disney World 2008 guide, and The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World." These books will tell you all you need to know about hotels, attractions, restaurants, and ticket prices, including phone numbers, to Disney World, and the Unofficial Guide will also give a lot of info about Universal Studios and Sea World, plus the water parks.

Just be forewarned: the summer months are hot and extremely crowded. September is my family's favorite time to go, but I understand that doesn't work for some families.

Go to Disney! Be young! Have fun!

the good, the bad and the ugly....

If you stay on property it will be easier than staying off property. why?
1- you will have free transportation to and from the parks. (saves you money on gas, don't have to worry about getting lost, finding parking, etc.)
2- you will be able to go into the parks early or stay later. (the early morning opening is awesome because you can get a lot done in that first hour. the major rides are open.)
3- you can take an mid-day break and go back to the hotel to recharge or hang out by the pool. and then go back to the park to continue going on rides or catching the fireworks.

The Bad. Summer is hot. depending on where you are coming from you may or maynot be ready for the hot and humid florida weather. make sure you are driking plenty of liquids and give yourself (and your kids) time to rest.

The Ugly: Summer is one of the most popular times at Disney and the parks will be busy. lines may be long, have some patience and be ready with activities that you can do while waiting in line and it will make things a little more fun. also, use the Fast Pass system. it allows you to get a "reservation" on certain rides. its a free service for all disney guests.

i don't know everyone's taste in your family but i would recommend that you do a little research and make a list of rides in order of importance. "must ride", "should ride", "kind of wanna ride" and "i will be okay if i miss". go on your must ride first and then work your way down. there is nothing worse than at the end of your trip you will go home having missed the best rides.

All the coasters are great but there is a general rule of thumb that applies here. the back of the coaster is usually rougher than the front (except for Expedition Everest) so if you do not like to be shaken about ask for the middle or front of the coaster.

Food can be expensive. by bringing in some small snacks (cookies, chips, etc.) that don't require refrigeration it can keep your expenses down. $2 here, $3 there... it adds up fast.

a quick tip... get to the park when it opens. there is usually some time of ceremony before the park opens and the park does not get busy until after 10am.

Sea world is not a disney park so you will have to provide your own transportation. you will have to drive or take a taxi to the park. its not too far from disney. and its fun. but its mostly an animal park with a couple of rides. the shows fill up fast so get there early. good luck and have fun.

if you go for six nights and seven days you really wont have time for anything but Disney. there is plenty there to keep you busy the whole time and you probably wont get everything done in that time but you will have fun and look forward to your next trip. Take a look at the resorts Disney has to offer, with five people the values wont be available to you since they only allow four to a room. Book to stay on Disney property and book through Disney, call them and ask about specials. If you can stay longer try to do it, I like at least 8 days for the parks.

Make sure oyu do at least one character dining experience, its a lot of fun, usually a buffet and the characters will come by your table for pics so your guarenteed pics.

Really all the rides and shows are great, try to do as much as you can. Take a look at the Disney website www.disney.go.com and see what they have to offer. If this is your first trip make a list of "must do" things and second list of things that sound cool, then look at the park maps, you can even get free custom maps from Disney. plan to head for your must do things first and you will often find other must do things nearby and other things from your sounds cool list. hit a must do and grab a fastpass for another must do then do standby while your waiting for your fastpass time.

Some of my favorites, at Magic Kingdom the classics, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle cruise. mickey's Philharmagic is great, love the train, Buzz lightyears space ranger spin is great also, Splash mountain is great also.

At EPCOT, mission space and spaceship eart, test track, try the new finding Nemo ride and I like Ellens Energy adventure.

Hollywood studios has Rockin Roller coaster and Tower of Terror is the best, see the Indy show and great movie ride is fun also.

At disney's Animal kingdom, Killimanjaro safari's is fun, Expidition Everest is a great coster and Dinosaur is a lot of fun.

these are really just some of the highlights, do it all if you can.
