I know people who put the diesel oil in the gas pickup engine because they get it in bulk from friends who have highway trucks in barrells......I THINK thats prob really not a good idea to put diesel oil in a gas engine. ANYONE really know if its a bad idea or not.

Depends on how new you car is. You might void the warranty the second 10-40 is put in crankcase. If your car has lots of leaks and there is no warranty to void then 10-40 will work. It will take longer for the oil to get to the top of the engine on cold starts. If you live in a colder seasonal climate then I wouldn't use it in ther winter time.

Oils are rated by the API (American Petroleum Institute) and all acceptable oils have ratings on the containers that indicate what the oil was designed to be used in. Ratings are shown with an S or C, followed by another rating which indicates the level of refining involved in manufacturing the oil. "S" rated oils are for use in gasoline engines, and "C" rated oils are for use in diesel engines. Most oils carry a rating for both, E.G. ,SF/CD or SG/CE. There are some oils that were designed exclusively for use in one or the other. I would say that its OK to mix them together a Little bit, but not to use 100% diesel oil in a gas engine or vise versa. The reason, I would assume, is the amount of detergent and sulfur content in each and compatability factors that prevent break-down of the oils lubrication qualities.

You can bet on it that nothing would goes wrong The Diesel Motor Oil is an engine classification dedicated to give better performance for diesel engine (you need not put diesel into your petrol engine either) I do use diesel for flushing my petrol engine, instead of engine flushing oil (the new engine oil stays clear for even longer mileage

Most oil for diesel is 15-40 not 10-40 in cold areas it isn't a good idea since cold it is really thick.

diessl oil is highly cleaning oil because diesel engines by nature are very dirty.so,if you put diesel oil in gas engine any oil left for lubrication during pre-start is gone!that means your motor starts cold with NOlubrication!just imagine the metal to metal friction/wear till it starts!by the way,am retired diesel mech.
