I am 13 in 8th grade. I have to decide whether to do varsity track or modified baseball. In track, my 1.5 mile is a little under 10 minutes, a 1:45 600m, and a very good 200m. I am amazing at relays. But for baseball, I throw a late 60's-early 70's 4 seam fastball, with an amazing 2 seam that is nearly unhitable, and a nasty circle change. I dont know what to choose. Which do you think I should pick based on the info I gave you?

I assume that since track season is in the spring, as is baseball, playing both is out. Since your run distance, perhaps you should change to cross country - which is a fall sport - and play baseball in the spring. The distance running would help your stamina in the spring.

The real question is - which one gives you the greatest joy? Since the chance of anyone making the MLB is slim to none and there is even less of a "professional" life for track - which one would you miss more?

Well at 10:00 for 1.5 miles it could be improved very much. I'm 14, in 8th grade, and I can go 1 mile in 7:50, 1.5 at 9:25, and 2 miles with 12:30. Thats over average, but its really good if you work hard and notice how well you have improved.

It's very cool how you can throw around 68, 69, 70, 71 at the age of 13. Now unless you play on a little league field then thats normal, I can throw 72 on a little league field, and on a regulation field I can throw 62-65. If you throw 70 on a regulation field (Babe Ruth) and you like the sport, I strongly suggest baseball.

I haven't seen you compete in either sport, so I have no idea which sport you should do, but if you are better in baseball then you are in track, you might want to think about doing that, or if you win big in one then the other that might also be a good choice. But also try talking to your track coaches, and your baseball coaches, before you make the decision which sport to do. And I bet when you like both sports, and then it becomes hard to choose which sport you want to do. Either that you don't do either, but then that isn't very good advice. Now if it would be me, I bet I wouldn't evne finish a mile and a half in under 10 minutes, so you are faster then me. But the question isn't about me, it is on you and which should you do track or baseball. And that is pretty good speed, I have no idea how fast a ball would go if I threw it, but again it isn't one me, and maybe this might be something that you might want to talk with your parents or other family members, but good luck with whatever you choose to do.

If 'modified baseball' is what is played before the normal baseball season, I say save your arm and run track. The last thing you want is an injury to that golden arm due to over use. However, if track is during the normal Baseball season then play baseball.

Baseball pays a lot of money kid. Live, eat and breathe it. Forget other sports and don't choose love yet. If you focus your life to pitching, someone will notice. You'll thank me if you follow my advice.

honestly...no one really cares about track. You are going to get beat in the long run by people that train constantly. Go with baseball...its worth a shot.

Go with baseball. If you hone your skills, the possibility of going to the majors would be more lucrative than going into track.
