Mel Gibson's Scottish accent was a bit dodgy and it was a bit historically inaccurate, but generally the majority of us Scots think it's a good film. It's a good story well told, and it has done a lot for the tourist industry in this country.

The only accurate part of Braveheart is that Wallace fought the English.

Pretty much the entire film was made up.

"too late for woad, too early for tartan"

"Mel Gibson originally planned to film the battle of Stirling Bridge at the actual site. He had to scrap that idea because the bridge kept getting in the way. When he mentioned this to one of the Scottish history advisors on the film, the man's reply was "Aye, that's what the English found."

But apart from that, try here:

The character of Murin is fictional. No one really knows what started Wallace down his path, he just suddenly appears in the record as he slaughters the garrison. Without the sympathetic reason behind it (the murder of his wife, and previous death of his father) Wallace is just another Scot in revolt. He did thump the English in battle, however.

Rather to a presentation on the Anti English, Anti Semitic star of the film., with particular emphasis on his Australian lay preacher father. A truly bigotted, raving mad preacher who poisoned his son with his mania and hatred.

Yet his son never evolved or grew to understand that his father is a hateful bigot of the worst sort. Then you will understand the lack of accuracy. It was based on generating hate of the English, someone the son learnt from his father.

I love and thrive on thumbs downs. They prove that people just plain and simply don't like the truth. Mel Gibson, was poisoned with the hatreds of his father when he. Mel. was growing up in Australia. He is not the first to suffer this. But most grow up, travel, get educated, and overcome the hatreds of their upbringing. Mel Gibsons own recent history, prove that I am right. Do your research and learn the truth about the small town Aussie sh.t who never grew up
