There is NO reason why you can't start playing. If you're in a metropolitan area, check out the local rinks. A lot of them have "learn to skate", 'learn to play hockey" and house leagues to start you off right. If you are interested in playing competetive hockey, you will need to work hard unless you have a lot of natural talent and/or they have a great skill development program. It will nevertheless, require a committment from you. But I have seen kids who have been in the house league for years and then step up to travel and be able to compete with the other kids. As far as gear goes, most programs have free/loaner equipment to start you off, also e-bay is a great place to get cheap stuff, just pay attention to what you are getting. Bottom line is have fun!

I play ice hockey . I play for the Palm Beach Predators women's travel team. We play in the Florida Women's hockey League and all over the US and Canada in USA hockey sanctioned tournaments I also play for a house league called Girls Night out.

And my highschool team just had their first game EVER for the program:Whitman-Hanson Pembroke Girls Varsity Hockey
It's 3 towns and 2 school districts and one team.
