That's a fine laptop for the price they're asking ... Vista is a lot more resource hungry meaning it requires more Ram than XP to do similar functions ... but with 2GB in this laptop you won't have any trouble at all ... Vista will also take a little bit of getting used to because it's different to XP but then XP was different to Win98 and we all managed to survive ... there are a few tweaks and trick you can find on the net to improve the "useability" of Vista ... and with SP1 due in a few weeks ... lets all hope the major little Gremlins in Vista will be banished ... my opinion ... go for it :)

Microsoft has been taking quite a beating lately due to performance and compatibility problems with Vista. I suppose if you are buying a totally new system that is Vista certified - including new peripherals like printers, etc.. It would be OK. Be aware that on any given hardware platform - same CPU , mem , etc., Windows XP is much faster than Vista. So you are going to see a slower computer when on Vista.
People are actually going back to XP after discovering all of their Vista problems.
Vista is a CPU and memory hog.
XP is refined and works.
Do yourself a favor and stick with XP sp2 for now, as MS has committed to maintaining XP for six more years.
Give Vista at least a year to mature before thinking of making such a drastic move.

simple n short vista is hell :-)). You can know why it is hell only when u start using it. Your friend is 100 % correct. All i can say is that with vista u may get fascinated with its look n feel but it has very tight security n stuff which wont let you install lots of software easily n also will not let you run many programs easliy too.. I believe u dont wanna purchase it for a showcase so now its ur choice... all the best..

There are things you can do on Vista that you can't do on XP. If used correctly, then Vista is a whole lot better.

Vista can record TV and radio (with TV/Radio Tuners), it looks a LOT better, and comes with a few extra programs that make it really nice, such as Windows DVD maker.

That laptop looks good. AMD processors are nice.

Please disregard all Mac, Linux, and other non-Windows operating system comments. They are people trying to rationalize their OS choice, and are not answering your question.

If you want to connect to a local net work (e.g. a home network) with other pc's on the network that are XP, the Vista pc will not be able to communicate with them (share files/folders). I just opted to purchase a reconditioned XP unit to avoid this issue. I WILL NOT buy a Vista unit until they solve the networking issues.

vista is obviously newer and more of the gadgets, games, etc. that come out will require vista. i personally like it better anyway because its more personalize-able than xp but i also heard that vista has a lot of glitches but it dosent mater if you want the laptop and want xp on it you can just install xp by buying the disc

There are still many hardware and software compatibility problems in Vista, so I wouldn't touch it.

However, if your peripheral hardware is new and you don't have use for anything but standard word processing, email and web software and the computer is cheap, I doubt you will be affected.
