Without turning off the breaker how do I test which plugs are on the same circuit? I have a small room in a house with 5 plugs. The breakers are in someone else's unit so I don't want to bug them for an afternoon of testing running up and down flipping the breakers and seeing what goes off. Is there anyway to test what is on the same circuit??
I don't want to run the heater, kettle and toaster all on the same circuit because it will blow...
Also some light and plugs in the other unit might be on the same breaker. The house is rewired and I know there are at least 30 breakers in the box but this unit was an old dining room and new(I think) bathroom in the corner of the main floor.

I was aware of the circuit tester and will have a look on eBay, but was hoping there was some way of doing a check on just that circuit. I asked if I could have access to the breaker box and will ask the other tenant if anything goes off in their unit

go to an electrical supply ask for a circuit tracer
one part plugs into an outlet the other tells you what breaker its on at the breaker box,
same as running back and forth checking a lamp.

If you temporarily overloaded the circuit with all your appliances, the breaker will trip. Then, quickly go around the place checking to see if any other receptacles are alive. When it comes time to reset the circuit breaker(just a one time inconvenience) you'll know whats what.

Buy a circuit trace meter. Just a couple hundred bucks. Why not turn off a circuit breaker and see what goes off?

well you can have an electrication come over and tell you or there is a devise you can get from any home store that you plug into a socket and then plug the other in a different one and see if it matches
but the easyest way is just like you said shut off the breakers and plug a lamp into it and see if what one works with what circuit
or you could blow holes in the walls and trace the wires
