A Martian is someone from Mars, Pennsylvania (just north of Pittsburgh).

an alien is someone not registered with the country he is in or is registered as a 'resident alien'.

All Martians are aliens, not all aliens are not Martians.

'Alien' is a term used for someone from somewhere else.

'Martian' is reserved for those specifically from Mars.

People from Mar's would be Martins, right? (See Bugs Bunny vs Marvin the Martian for details)

An alien is simply someone from somewhere else- illegal mexican aliens, or legal aliens from Egypt- all it means is one is here with the government's blessings, the other without.
