The first time any work of Schubert's was given in public was on 16 October 1814. On that date his Mass in F major (D105) was performed in Lichtental church (where Schubert had been a chorister). The work was written to celebrate the church's 100th anniversary and the 17 year old Schubert directed. The soprano soloist was Therese Grob, the composer's first great love. The work was repeated two weeks later in St. Augustine's Church, Vienna.
