Then you realise they are talking to someone thru their earbud or something. But you cannot help but make this disturbing mental analogy. As this person passes by you, with this certain animated look on their face, you have a vision that is not unlike what you would imagine that the truly insane people who are locked up somewhere would similarly be doing.
Who else has had this vision?

This happened to me a lot when they first came out. I quickly realized that most everyone talking to themselves were using wireless. But then last week in the bank I am sitting there waiting and this man sits down a few chairs from me. He is chattering on, using his hands, pausing for answers and such. He is on the phone I think to myself. Well the conversation started to get heated, his voice raised, and he was telling the other person to do something for the business (this was a conversation in Spanish) and he jumped up from his chair and started pacing back and forth. This is when I saw he had no phone. Nothing. I seemed to be the only person there that noticed he didn't actually have a phone. He was without a doubt talking to his self. What are you suppose to do in situations like that?

Yes, I have seen it just recently myself. It was in a video store. I thought she was asking me a question. (I almost answered!) Then noticed there was another person close by, and realized they were together. But when the other person went on his way and she continued talking, I thought I was the one with a problem. It took me that long to realize she was undoubtedly conversing on her cell phone.
I NEVER carry one, which I'm sure is equally hard to believe. I dont feel the need to be connected 24/7. The computer is bad enough! I find it so rude when I see people who actually are together, while one is using their cell phone.

Actually, based upon lots of experience, people who are "talking to themselves" seem to consistently be having a conversation between the right side of their brain and the left side of their brain.
If you listen to the conversations, invariably part of the conversations includes statements like "I'm not sure how I feel about this. What do you think.", and the answer will come back " I think you should do this.", or the reverse.
In short, most are probably more in contact with themselves than people who find the activity strange.

I've thought people were talking to me in elevators and answered them only to realize when they give me a crazy look they were on the phone.
However I was in the bank the other day in a LONG line and the guy behind me really was having a conversation with himself....it was rather creepy..he wasn't on the phone but he was talking as if he was answering some unseen voice.

YUP...it happens more often with someone in a car just singing their head off and you think they are having a mental breakdown of some sort! They look like they are yelling and there is NO ONE in the car! Beats those nose pickers who think they are alone and in private on the highway, speeding past picking a huge one out of a nare.

Yeah, I'm really not used to cellphones (despite that they have existed for longer than I have)... There used to be this old blind lady, too, who was actually talking (and yelling at times) to herself, that would pass by my house all the time... ...Though as for the actual question of imagining something like that, I don't think so.

Guilty, KY, LOL!!
I've often seen people who seem to be having long, loud conversations with themselves...then turn out to be on a phone...or singing with a CD.
Yes, sometimes I do think about something like that all day...and do imagine them to be clinically wacko....then I feel guilty about that.
