This will be out first Christmas together, but fortunately my parents are moving the week just before then so they aren't decorating and my Mom probably won't cook either. More than likely my boyfriend and I will be at their new house on Christmas Eve since we have his kids all day Christmas Day. We're still waiting to find out is his parents will be home or if they're going to visit family out of state. If they're home, we'll probably drive down when we pick up the kids for normal visitation on Saturday/Sunday.
You just have to coordinate with both families and decide what works best for the 2 of you.

Depends on if both families are in the same town? Then its simple - break up your day & visit both. If you have to travel, figure out which family would be the most upset at missing your visit and go there. If BOTH families will be equally upset, flip a coin. You can't please everyone all the time. The following holiday go to the coin flip loser.

In my opinion, the appropriate would be to SHARE.
Depending on how each family are accustomed to celebrating.
Spend the EVE with one, and the DAY with the other. The EVE was always more important in my family.....Where as the DAY was more important with his family. Thus it worked out perfectly! However, it may require negotiating in your circumstance.

When me and my ex-hubbie(we're dating again) met, it was around April(that was 3 years ago). We had it at my house and what we did was have his family over on Christmas Eve, and my family over on Christmas day. It was great.
But if you cannot have it at your house, spend X-Mas Eve with his family and X-Mas Day with yours.

Let the chips fall or they'll take control of your happiness together and you'll wind up picking up the pieces later.
