You've got to hand it to the Republicans, they know how to SPIN an issue 'til Americans are dizzy. War is a BUSINESS and there are BILLIONS to be made by the likes of Halliburton, Lockheed Martin and Blackwater, just to name a few. The US destroys Iraqi cities and then pays to rebuild them. But we contract it out to companies that rape the American government and taxpayers. I'm quite liberal in my political beliefs, but I support our troops. I support them enough to want them to come home as safely and as soon as possible. I support our troops, but not their mission. I support our troops enough to never want to see them put in harm's way unless all other options have been exhausted. Support Our Troops! BRING THEM HOME NOW!

Exactly. "Support the Troops" really means Support the U.S. Foreign Policy of intervention, invasion and occupation and the thousands of civilian casulties that come with it.
You don't hear the phrase "Support the Troops" used much in the rare years when the U.S. is not involved militarily overseas.
Another propaganda slogan used is "Defending our Freedom." What B.S. How was Iraq in 2003 any threat to the United States? The only freedom involved is the "freedom" of Military Contractors, Media Corporations and Oil Companies to Profit from War.

A lot of people claim to support the troops because it's the political "thing du jour". There's an election next year and to admit that one "loathes" the military would be a bad move. The troops see through such tactics and know who is really for them. All those congressional and senate people who called Gen Petraeus a liar a few months ago exposed their feelings for the military when they did it. Now that the surge has been proven to be effective, they all want to jump on the bandwagon, but the real patriots see that it's a sham.

It's because liberals hate the troops and NBC thinks that they will cash in by becoming the anti-war network. The trouble with this business plan is that they refuse to be up front about their strategy, and the people they cater to won't openly share their beliefs against the war and the troops. Their ratings will likely go down, and they won't know why because no one is talking.

That was the very same question my husband asked when he heard the story this morning. He had wanted to know how come someone needs to pay for an ad to air that is stating what everyone already does?
The "spindoctors" are working overtime here. . .

Subversion in advertising?
That's a new one.
But of course you're right and right to point it out. They pick a feel-good issue to stop thought and then plant the seed...
Hitler would be proud of them.
