Because nerve cells do not re-generate like other cells. Once they are gone or damaged they will always be.

There are two types of nerves, myelinated and nonmyelinated. Much of the peripheral nervous system is made up of myelinated nerves can and do regenerate when damaged. The central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) have most of their nerves nonmyelinated. If those nerves are damaged, they cannot regenerate.

Nerve tissue cannot be replaced through conventional means, but stem cell research of various types (skin, embryonic, adult) may hold an answer to organ growing and nerve regeneration.

Neurons in the central nervous system do not regenerate well enough to repair the damage.
It was previously believed that brain neurons do not regenerate at all, but recent studies have shown they do, however slight that regeneration may be. It is present only in the very young.

Cells in teh brain and spiral cord can't be replaced. They don't regenerate and you can't transplant them.

The brain and spinal chord are made of nervous tissue. Nerve cells can't grow back once they die.

because the damage is with the nerves, and once nerves are dead they are dead forever and can't be fixed.
