I just asked a question about pain in the lower left abdomen and got the response of, "It's probably just ligament pain." which makes sense and I am happy with until I speak with my DR.

BUT.. I just went to the bathroom and noticed a big ...um, glob.. (gosh, sorry, this sounds horrible) of discharge on my underwear. It wasn't in the crotch area though, it was up the underwear a little higher... if that makes any sense? I'm so confused. I don't know if I am so miserable and wanting the baby here so badly that every little thing is driving me crazy or what, but ... the big glob of discharge is abnormal.

I wiped it with toilet paper and it wasn't bloody... so, when you lose the mucus plug, is it always bloody?

Forgot to add that I am 38 weeks. :)

My underwear IS pink where the glob was, but no pink came off on the toilet paper.

Geeeeeeez. Now I'm nervous...even though I know I have time.

It sounds like you are losing your mucus plug. The mucus plug comes out differently in different women and different pregnancy's. I had no blood in mine in either of my pregnancy's. Sometimes it comes out in little chunks and sometimes it comes out all at once. The glob being in the top of your underwear is normal. With my first my mucus plug came out all at once and did signal the onset of labor. If this is your first pregnancy you should know that the mucus plug is probably much bigger than you think. This is gross but if you didn't have to throw your panties away than you probably didn't loose all of it. With my second it came out one chunk at a time. :) It is possible to lose your mucus plug and still not go into labor for weeks. That probably is not good news. Sorry!

You can have a discharge of just mucus and also a bloody show. I have been having discharge of mucus for weeks now. A bloody show tends to be larger and have brown-pinkish blood in it. Neither means that you are going into labour. Its still could be days or weeks.

Another cause could be if you have diarrhea you could have a mucus discharge from that as well.

All are nothing to worry about and are normal, although still report it to your doc at your next appt...

What color was it? It often has a pinkish color to it, but not necessarily. Even when you do lose your mucus plug.. it can be another 2 weeks before you have the baby. Just try to relax and call the doctor in the morning... although I know that is difficult. Good luck!

I have been losing my plug for a while now and it has always looked like snot. Green and all, but sometimes white as well. No blood or anything. Gross I know, but the hospital confirmed that is what it was becuase I didn't think it should have been green. EEEEWwwwww. Such gross things when it comes to having babies. Lol

The mucus plug doesn't have to be bloody and you're fine. No need to call your doctor until tomorrow.

Call the doctor's office. You could be at the beginning stages of labor.
