I know that there's been a lot of folks out there, who have been asking about the lack of DVD release of 1985's "The Legend of Billie Jean", starring Helen Slater; for those folks interested, though there's still no imminent sign of a DVD release, Turner Classic Movies is unceremoniously broadcasting the film on the 14th of December, at 12:45 AM, Pacific Time...

...having not seen the film, myself (...though I am a big fan of the hit song, "Invincible", a prominent song in the film, as sung by Pat Benetar), yet still knowing that it IS a popular and perinnial classic '80's gem, would anyone absolutely recommend it, and why does the film stand out as being so extraordinary, to garnish such a cult following....

...I'd be most curious, as to anyone's opinion of the film, before watching and/or duping the film....

This was a very powerful movie for teens growing up in the 80's. For myself and other girl friends, we wanted to be like Billie Jean and be strong and fight for what we belived in. The guys all loved Billie Jean because she was hot. The movie had all the struggles that we were having at that time and although it was only a movie, it felt good to see the "little guy" win. I will watch this movie whenever it is aired and would reccommend it to anyone, especially teens.

Well, it's the first film Helen did after "Supergirl" and she looks absolutely gorgeous in it. So those are two of the somewhat superficial reasons.

Other than that it is something like "Billy Jack" and "Outlaw Blues", where it is the little guy against "the Man". That is always good for a following, having an underdog in a film. In this case, it had a strong female as "the little guy", which a lot of films had been lacking before then.
