The latest report from the infamous rumor mill is saying that a deal that could get revived over the next week or two is Jason Bay going from Pittsburgh to Cleveland (this was according to the Boston Globe).
The Indians would love to have Bay to play left field and add much-needed thump to their lineup. They were willing to offer lefty Cliff Lee, an 18-game winner just two years ago, but the Pirates prefer Jeremy Sowers or Aaron Laffey as well as former Red Sox catcher Kelly Shoppach. Indians outfielder Franklin Gutierrez has also been talked about in a deal.
This would definitely put Cleveland in the driver's seat of the AL Central division. They're going to need something to put them over the top, unless they want to stay in a season long dogfight with the Tigers. And that is pretty much what it's shaping up as.

It's not going to happen and it was never going to. Teams make inquires and shoot around ideas every offseason, and the media picks them up and turns them into rumors. Doesn't mean it was never discussed but there was no way it was going to happen because from a marketing perspective the Pirates would lose a fortune in ancillary revenue if they lost Jason Bay without getting a huge star in return. That would effect everything from the merchandizing to the commercials to the season ticket sales to the casual fans, the TV rights negotiations, the TV ad revenues..... there would be a ripple effect that would hurt every aspect of the organization. The Pirates can't claim to be contenders; their only argument for why people should care about them is because they have a lovable local hero. And if they got rid of Bay they'd need a new hero and who would they sign? They can't afford to just pick up Miguel Tejada or something. In that way Jason Bay is harder to trade for than Johan Santana, even though he's not as good.

The trade has been percolating for a couple weeks now. They were close to completing it early last week, but it died because the Indians wanted to send Cliff Lee and the Pirates wanted a prospect instead. It may come back to life (such deals sometimes do), but as of a few days ago the Pirates were saying the deal was dead and the Indians were saying they'd never talked to the Pirates.

Jason Bay is one of the few Pirates that are almost impossible to trade. The only way the Bucs are going to trade him is if they were overwhelmed with a deal and were going to make out like bandits. The deal with Cleveland is dead and probably will stay that way. Bay will bounce back and have a very good season. If he shows this by the July trade deadline, teams will be waiting in line with good offers for him.

He was a Type A free agent, Boston offered him a 4 year 60 million contract while the Mets offered him 5 million more, the same amount of years. Bay originally wanted a 5 year contract but didn't get that. Apparently Bay did not want to stay with Boston so he signed with the next best thing, with the Mets.

The trade rumour is a small, probably not going to happen thing.
Since it has not been reported on MLB.com, it is very unlikley anything of that sort will happen. Bay is among the best outfielders in the league and trading him for 1 or 2 prospects would be stupid.

I think Bay will be traded somewhere before March. Pittsurgh always trades the good players.

I know the Dodgers are talking to the pirates about Bay. I would love to see it happen since I believe the best years for Bay are ahead of him.

Toronto wants Bay, market him to Canadians, his shirt sales would be huge.
