the ad comes up and it closes down the internet explorer page that was opened before... how can I get rid of this virus?

I would advise downloading a free antivirus program such as AVG and Avast

Ya =it happens when you download something. mostly from limewire. There is an artricle about hw to get rid of it on halooya.com

Spyware Blaster(immunizer)
AVG Spy free
A2 Free (wont conflict)
Spybot
AVG
Adaware
Norton System Scan(free)
update them and run two and scan then quarantine what you find, restart and scan with other
