At what age do you think is good for sippy cups. my son doctor told me that it was ok to start giving him juice noe. he is 4 1/2 old. he is already eating most of his basic foods cereal, fruits and veggies. I do not want to give him juice in the bottlr because it can rot teeth. it will be baby juice. and he holds his bottle well. is this a good time to start. he also sits up on his own and has doubled his birth weight thats why we started him on solids.

When my son was about 3 1/2 - 4 months old one day he just wouldn't take his bottle, couldn't figure out why. So i gave him a sippy cup someone gave me made by NUK(the nipple is shaped like a sippy cup but soft like a regular bottle) and he loved it, his pediatrician is happy with it as he said it never hurts to start early as long as they are happy. he is going on 8 months old now and i am now transitioning him to a regular sippy cup with a firmer nipple. As for the juice, what I have been advised to do is just not to give it to him to drink while he is going to sleep or to carry around, if he insists on sleeping with a bottle or something similar give him water in his bottle/sippy cup. I recently dealt with the sippy cup transition and everything, if you ever have any questions feel free to write me anytime! Hope this helps!

first off, giving him juice from a bottle, will not rot his teeth.
If you put him to bed with a bottle with milk or juice in it it can, because he may not swallow it all and it stays in the mouth and the sugar in the juice or milk will rot the teeth.
Its fine to give him juice in a bottle, just dilute the juice 1/2 and 1/2 with water.
you can offer a cup now if you want.. but it will take him a while to get the hang of it.

all of us started a sippy cup with my son at 10 months. He by no ability held his very own bottle (i think of that improve into quite often because of the indisputable fact that he improve into quite often breastfed and in uncomplicated terms have been given a bottle at daycare). He did no longer even start to hold his very own sippy cup till he improve into over 14 months.

6mo is the best time to start a sippy cup, once my babies turned 1 i quickly took the bottles out of sight, and that way they were ready just for the sippy cup itself because they were introduced to the cup at 6mo. Dont forget to dilute the juice with water, better for the teeth and they don't need so much sugar.

My son is six months and we have just started giving him a sippy. He does not like bottles. We need to still hold it for him though. If your worried about it rotting his teeth you should take the stopper thing out with it in it is just as bad as a bottle.

I think whenever he can hold his cup on his own, is a good time. I would think with milk, he should probably drink from a bottle unless he's that good at holding a cup.

There is really no need to give kids juice since it has a lot of sugar and it is a lot of empty calories for babies. If you do decide to give juice you should give no more than 4 ozs. per day and it should be significantly diluted with water. Basically, one ounce of juice and four (or more)ounces of water. It seems strange to me that your doctor would encourage you to give juice since most pediatrician's do not recommend it. My daughter is 3 1/2 years old and we still don't give her juice regularly and when we do we still dilute it significantly with water.

In addition, baby juice is not different than any other 100% juice you buy it is just more expensive. It still needs to be diluted...

I would wait until after 6 months old. He should be able to hold his bottle well.

I'd hold off on the juice. Your baby should really be getting the majority (if not all) of his nutrition from breast milk or formula.
