Probably after a few more Columbines... Maybe that'll catch their attention... It's horrible.

Let's say you ban guns tomorrow, what would happen? Many people would not have guns, while the criminal element of society would have them, and would know it would be easier to commit crime. If you want to ban guns, you would have to do so over a long period of time, in order to prevent more deaths.
That means, good legislation that reduces the ability of criminals to get their hands on guns, perhaps training for individuals to be able to buy guns (but you could not make training that prevents them from having guns unless there is a good reason, like being insane), but by the time you have got your legislation, you are likely to have a much lower number of murders anyway, no need to ban the things.

some bent on a crime is going to have a gun or fine a way of getting one. When guns are banned the only ones having guns will be the criminals. Look in the wantads of the news paper or on the wall where you can post ad for selling things and you will see how people can get a gun any time the want too. The are not registered either. I keep a gun and always will. How dare you call us gun owners heatherns . When the ones who use the guns agains decent law abiding citizens are the heathens.

Can I say its a pen or pencils fault when I make spelling mistakes?
People will kill if they wish too, knives, Hammers, Scissors. All kill and all have been used. If I recall last year a man in Penn. Killed 9 FAMILY members with a hammer and his own hands. Far more deadly than most of our shooting "massacres". And in fact most criminals don't care of talking, the universal rule is that the strong survive. Go ahead and talk while I steal your TV, maybe beat up on a wife or such. Force is the only option at times, and guns don't kill people anymore than a sword. People kill people. No guns, fine, no swords, fist, knives, hell even spoons.

I agree. Civilians and guns are very bad combination, and has no place in modern society. The 'right to bear arms' is embarrassingly outdated.
As for the 'protection' argument, if guns had been outlawed in the first place then what would you need protection from? Just look at countries with tight gun control, the incidence of gun related homicides is generally far lower than in gun crazy USA. It's a matter of common sense, something that gun nut rednecks seem to sadly lack. How many more innocents need to have their heads blown off before politicians get the guts to do what needs to be done?
Edit: Just read a few other replies, which seem to be overwhelmingly pro-gun. The main argument seems to be that you need guns for protection. Just wondering, where were all you gun-toting super heroes when the psycho went hunting in that Ohio mall the other day?
There are bad people in every country, murders happen everywhere. It's just a lot easier in America where pretty much anyone can get a gun quickly and cheaply. There are very few gun related deaths in the UK. Why? Because it's very difficult and expensive to get one.

Banning guns would be a huge mistake my friend. There is no way of reasoning with a criminal, and do-gooders like yourself are the people who let them get away with murder. if somebody broke into your home with a gun, then I'd pay money to watch you try to reason with the guy....that would just be funny.
Criminals will always get hold of guns wether they're banned or not. Taking them away from the decent hard working law abiding citizen who uses them for self defence and or sport is not right. That will only make matters worse because the bad guys will still be armed, and our homes will not be.
The first two guys have made very good points, it's not only guns that kill people. If you were to take those away, then you might as well manufacture every household item from rubber from then on. If someone has their mind set on killing, they will do it anyway.....not always with a gun.

What good will banning guns do? The criminals that use guns for killing people won't even care, they'll get guns anyways, after all...they are criminals. So why take away guns and just have criminals having them. Besides saying that it's the guns falt that someone got killed is like blaming a car from someone getting ran over. It's the people! NOT THE GUNS!!!

If you Ban guns, criminals will still be able to get them through the black market and then innocent people won't be able to protect themselves. When are you going to realize that if someone wants to kill someone, they're going to do it regardless of what weapon they use. You can kill someone with just about anything. I don't even need a weapon to kill. I am a weapon.

You will find that the majority of supporters for the right to own guns claim to be Christians. Let's not forget good ol' Moses himself,(Heston) and he even has the nerve to record the New Testament. But then again, they are "cherry picking Christians. (The kind that follow the parts they like and forget the rest.) As for the 2nd amendment, if they want to own guns, fine, just ship them off to Iraq. (That was just sarcasm, as I'm opposed to the invasion of Iraq.

Oh, my god, it's the first really awesome post of the day. Hurray!
First off, why "heathens"? There are religious people who think owning guns is okay; it's not just non-theists.
Second off, have a lot of fun talking to criminals. THAT sounds like a great plan. I'm *certain* if someone comes to your house with intentions of murdering you, just talking to them will make them change their mind.
What planet are you living on?!

Recently a man walked into a mall where guns WERE banned and opened fire killing eight people. I'm sure every one there was comforted knowing 1 That the gunman was breaking the law bringing that gun in. 2 None of the law abiding citizens there had a gun so they were screwed.
I wonder if anyone tried talking to him as he was shooting them.I guess we could ask one of the lucky ones who were only wounded.
