It depends...

If you have downloaded the executable from a safe source then you might not get infected directly by running it.

If you have a proper security suite installed on your computer (antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc) from a reliable vendor (mcafee, norton, etc) that is properly configured and completely up to date... along with all windows security updates... then you might get saved from infecting yourself with an infected download or someone attempting to attack you via your IP address... if not, then you are certainly at risk of those.

Anytime you open up a communication port and/or with other people's computers who may or may not be using protection themselves and then attempting to download illegal files... you run some risk... not to mention the federal copyright infringement laws you will be breaking and the risk of federal prison and a nice felony count (federal ones never go away).

Good Luck

Is Utorrent Safe

Depends on what you call "save", when you are performing P2P, you run a very high risk of getting your pc infected with some very dangerous trojans, spyware, adware, keyloggers, and rogue dialers. (It is the risk you take for using uTorrent).

If you have excellent real time antivirus that really catches a trojan in real time and destroy, prior to getting into your system, then you will be okay. If not you are going to destroy your pc.

I have excellent real time background scanner that destroys anything with an enbedded trojan, virus, spyware, adware, etc. etc, or even a file that does not have a valid Lic., or Publisher in real time. Check it out, one time fee for life, with daily auto updates and all new versions for life. Price 29.99

In addition to potentially downlaoded malicious software, you also will have an open port which opens you up to direct hacking.

AV software like Avira Antivir will help with any virus issues, and firewalls like Comodo will help control what comes in to your computer.

uTorrent itself is safe, though.

uTorrent is just a program that manages downloads of torrents. It all depends on where you are getting your torrents (from which sites). Some torrents are fakes and have viruses and spyware embedded in them. Before you download torrents, make sure they have lots of people seeding them and try to check the comments to make sure people aren't saying bad things about the torrent.

Tons of malware try to get on your computer by placing the malware in popular downloads. It is called "piggybacking".

There is no 100% safe way to block the malware or remove it before opening the infected download. Malware is constantly changing and the security programs that you would scan with before opening such downloads are always playing catch up with new definitions/signatures of malware.

Yeah, it's the files you download which are potentially dodgy. Azureus is great too.
