Ron Paul is a libertarian looking to take advantage of the free TV time afforded him at the Republican debates.
It is a great credit to the Republican Party that they even allow this poser to come and spew his stuff at THEIR event and not give him the boot!
Hes worse than a distraction, he's and idiot.

Like Ross Perot, Ron Paul is perhaps the best politician of his time. His ideas are innovative. His solutions are sound. His concerns are genuine. If it looks like he'll gain any momentum [and might even attract 19% of the popular vote], the 'Republicrats" will 'take care' of him, just as they did Perot. The monopolistic two-party political system is not going to allow anyone to loosen the stranglehold it has on our electoral system. Voters will be forced to vote for the choices handed them by the "Republicrats", by God....and that's that! -RKO- 12/09/07

He brings up a lot of good points and he resonates with a lot of people, particularly the younger ones, but a lot of things he says just won't fly. He will fade before the primaries are half way through.

He is like a gnat. He is a pest that is not easy to get rid of but has a short life and will be gone shortly so it is best to just swat at him now but realize he won't last long.

His ubiquitous supporters are very committed and loud.At the end of the day I don't see it happening for him. At most I see an independent candidacy for him in which 6% of votes cast for him land Hillary or Obama in the White House.

No, like Ross Perot in 1992 he will go nowhere in terms of being elected, but he will have a significant effect on the debate and the subsequent policies.

He is a distraction to those who strongly desire more-of-the-same and do not support the US Constitution.
In comparison, a major flip-flopper, a crooked city mayor, and a person disguised as a conservative from Arkansas are the party favorites.

It will probably turn out that way, i think he is attempting to get a chance at second seat, but the people who support him feel otherwise.

To answer your question;
Yes, he has no chance of winning the nomination, no chance of being a VP. No chance of running as a independent.
