...my two most favorites: 1968's "Dracula Has Risen From the Grave" and 1971's "Doctor Jekyll & Sister Hyde"...
..."...Grave" is a particular favorite (...saw this one, for the first time, at the drive-in, when I was five...and fell in love with it!!!), because of some of the shocking and contraversial images and subplots, which were engaged, in the midst of telling the story (...the desecration of a church, one of the characters being an athiest, the dynamic way in which the Count meets his demise, etc.); the direction of the film was most compelling and dynamic, in itself. Considering the very startling imagery and the unconventional subject matter, it's surprising that this film garnished a 'G' rating...
...the melding of the 'Jekyll & Hyde' story, with both the Jack the Ripper, and the Burke & Hare stories, is lower case contraversial to the most unusual aspect of the story, where Jekyll's evil side (...thanks to the inclusion of female hormones to the formula mix) turns out to be a woman, in "Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde; it had to be by pure chance and luck, that actor Ralph Bates, and actress Martine Beswick looked so uncannily alike, in the film...
...I might just lose 'cool' points for this, but one of my favorite guilty-pleasure Hammer favorites is 1974's "The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires", which had Peter Cushing return as Count Dracula's main nemesis, Dr. Van Helsing, who teams up with a family of kung fu fighters in China, to do battle with an ancient clan of vampires, led by none other than the Count himself, who has possessed the body of an evil chinese priest. Although Christopher Lee wisely bowed out of this final Hammer/Dracula excursion, the film was still oh-so much campy and cheezy fun...
(edit)
...gotta agree with 'Palmerpath', down below me; one of my favorite overall chilling horror film moments of all time, is in 1960's "Brides of Dracula", where this crazed, insane and cackling old woman is tending the grave of a young girl, who is about to arise as one of the vampire brides (...of David Peel, not Manners, my fellow "Brides of Dracula" fan!!); the cackling dialogue of the old woman, who is trying to coax the undead girl from her grave, is absolutely and maniacally chilling, right to the bone!!!

Hi there.
Hammer totally rocked!
"Quatermass and the Pit" is one of the best sci-fi films ever made, intelligent and scary - they should take the slasher-flick makers and lock them in a room with this film until they understand how it should be done.
The presence of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing makes a number of Frankenstein and Dracula films unmissable too.
But my all-time top Hammer?
Just edging out "Lust for a Vampire" (ah Yutte, how wonderful you were) is - "The Vampire Lovers". Ingrid pitt and Madeleine Smith as the lesbian lovers of the title, a genuinely erotic and frightening rendition of the classic story by J Sheridan le Fanu. Man, it just doesn't get any better than this, gothic, camp and disturbing by turns with two of the most beautiful actresses ever to grace the big screen.
I need a lie down now.
Cheers, Steve.

The first Hammer I saw was Brides of Dracula, and it still packs a punch for me. Peter Cushing a dashing Van Helsing, David Manners as the suave, blond disciple of Dracula, some lovely heroines, great art and set design, good action sequences, suspense and excellent creeps!

I do like the "cheesy" Hammer films but Quatermass And The Pit is one of the best horror films ever, still really scary after all this time.
