Lawrence of Arabia , T.E. Lawrence was never a Sir . In fact he refused all honours and medals from the British Government in disgust at their betrayal of the Arabs at the end of the war after promising them self rule in return for their help in fighting the Turks.
He was a man of great courage and integrity, a rare thing these days
