linux is built off of unix. Unix is a very old os that people took and they made different operating systems off of, unix based systems usually have a name ending in x. Unix was originaly used back in the DOS days, and then groups made different versions of unix and the empire built and soon they used GUI. if you really want unix you can buy it for a small price but linux is more compatible and all togather better because its unix plus all the extra security, and such. Linux is free and can be found in many forms the most popular is ubuntu linux which is free of charge and can be downloaded and burned to a disk and used to boot a computer. Linux is the best unix based os out there. So all in all linux is better, because of its add-ons and it has more software distributed for it. another good thing about linux is that all linux software is open source so your free to change software that you download in any way you wish, and most software for linux is free of charge.

Unix is a proprietorial working equipment to which countless companies own the rights. each companies version of unix is slightly diverse yet all of them conform to a similar standards as a manner to make it undemanding to bypass purposes between different version. Linux is an open source working equipment designed to be like minded with the unix standards. effectively linux in simple terms yet another version of unix. it is not technically splendid yet close adequate for many circumstances.
