No, I'm not interested in reading anyone's e-mail, and I don't care if anyone reads mine.

But some things I've read here have made me wondered if it is possible for yahoo monitors to have access to their users' accounts or if it is possible for them to know how many accounts each person has...

I also associated to this the fact that in the McCann's case, the police had reportedly disclosed the content of some of their e-mails... (I don't know if this is true, though...)

The answer is multiple forms of Yes.

Yes, it is possible for someone to get your password to your email accounts and read your email (that goes for web-based and pop3 accounts).

Yes, it is possible for administrators of email systems you use to read your email. Given that they are administrators, there is no technical way to ensure 100% privacy of a users' email. I don't care of someone lays down a 100 page privacy statement, your email is still open to an administrators snooping.

That said, why would they do that? They'd have to have some vested interest. I don't think Yahoo gives a rip how many accounts you have either.

Yes, authorities can present a warrant to a service provider for access to, and the turnover of, email from someone's account. A warrant signed by a judge allows for the search and seizure of evidence, and that more and more includes electronic communications that may be stored on a service providers computer.

Yes, your boss can read your work emails.

There's no reason to be overly paranoid, but you should understand that your electronic communication is most certainly not secure. People aren't "out to get you", generally speaking, so Yahoo administrators probably aren't snooping on you.

Well, theoretically they have access to our e-mail: I think that at the moment of registration they memorize our nick and password, but even if they didn't I don't htink it would be a huge problem for them. I hope though they don't read them ,first because I don't see the point, second because it would be a violation of privacy.
