This country was founded on Christian principles. I'm sorry you hate Christians so much.

To the Evangelical (the term itself means to convert others into Christianity through a "Rebirth" - mostly made up of Protestants, with some Catholics - it is a term often misused by the media), yes, they do respresent a danger to the current system. Their undying support of Bush has been largely becuase of their desire for a powerful military, and because they feel it is their duty to convert people to Christianity to "save" them.
But I think that the fact that the military and the President have fo much power is the real threat. The checks and balances in the Constitution are dying - lets face it. It is true that the religious right is perhaps their biggest voting base, and that the would like to see the US turned into a Christian state, but I think that the biggest threat to US democracy is internal.
By the way, the US is getting more religious, not less religious. This has always been a curiosity to me - just look at Europe and Canada - religion is in decline there.

Man, did you ever think of getting up on the other side of the bed now and then? Whatta grouch!
Actually, there is some legitimacy to your supposition: evangelicals tend to be a bit dogmatic and unyielding, and in many an instance that's not the most helpful of attitudes. But they're not the only ones who do that.
But when you want to make a point, you have to realize some people are going to take offense and unfortunately some of these people mistakenly believe your words should be kept from the public forum. It's something you and I both have to live with, and getting all pissy about it isn't going to help.

Please, don't make threats.
No, it is not the biggest threat to democracy. I would think the possibility of a recession is more problematic. Global warning may or may not be the biggest issue of them all. Any nuclear attack any where in the world would probably initiate WWIII. Lack of affordable healthcare is causing more and more unnecessary deaths.
The Evangelicals' beliefs and actions are small change compared to these.

"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to the point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any controlling private power."
Franklin D. Roosevelt spoke these words more than sixty years ago. I believe the greatest threat to American democracy [and to our republic] is the growth of elements such as the Democratic and Republican parties, the Bush dynasty, the Clinton dynasty, and the abject apathy of the American people. As long as we're more concerned about Britney Spears' love life than we are about who leads this country, we jeopardize the very freedoms our forefathers fought to protect.
Arrogance, shallowness, ignorance, sloth, and hubris have set in to create a decadent, misinformed, greedy, lazy and irresponsible citizenry. Our great grandchildren will pay dearly for our apathy. -RKO- 12/09/07

Media reports of the day listed the Communist PLA woes of the early 1990's due to Communism's historically proven failed economics and a nearly bankrupt central government. Boots for every other soldier, guns for half their men with only 5 BULLETS PER GUN, no real navy and precious little effective air forces. Command was antiquated as were communications, nuclear capacity and field armor with moral tanked due to nonpayment of salaries throughout the conscripted service of the PLA. The student uprising of 1989 by unarmed citizens seeking liberty nearly defeated the PLA but was brutally repelled with an excess of 10000 murdered students in the streets of China's capital. Point is the people nearly won. 1994 saw the realization of the dream of capitalizing from tyranny while undermining freedom and avoiding living wages by a small group of Arkansas traitors when Clinton, acting as a WMT lawyer while President of USA, extended "favored nation" trading status to the enemy of liberty.

I think libs are. They continue to want to forcefully take tax dollars from me to combat things like aids which of course comes form living an illegitimate and immoral lifestyle. They want to force government health care on all of us. They want to protect all minority's while not protecting the majority... They want terrorists to roam free to do whatever they like. Similar to the 90's during the Clintoon debacle. They want to tear down the sanctity of marriage so it's value will be diminished in society and homo's will feel more normal. Anyone with a brain knows this is not possible... I could keep going on and on but I don't have all day...

Any group that believes it is above our nation's constitution is a threat to our way of life, especially if it receives more than token support by our elected leaders.

i might ought to declare you're good in that the apathy of usa electorate is the main important possibility. company lobbying, the protection rigidity-commercial complicated, and moralist (notwithstanding if Christian, Muslim, or atheist) demagogues pushing for morality-based regulations are additionally important gamers. loose speech ability freedom for people who talk what you hate, see you later as they do no longer seem to be infringing on others. Rev. Fred Phelps pushes that line complicated, yet he in uncomplicated terms steps throughout it on occasion. nonetheless, concern might desire to be the main important situation dealing with our freedoms. we are afraid of terrorists, they're inflicting terror, and we are dropping freedoms because of the fact of them. that's certainly one of their targets. Politicians feed on concern too, it supplies them potential. So, it style of feels most of the politicians on the two factors are merely fantastic with letting the terrorists win slightly.

You, on one hand, fear religion trying to control a government.
I, on the other hand, fear a government that tries to control religion.
The U.S. Constitution guarntees freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion.
p.s. I would not report your question. It is quite legitimate and one that merits discussion..
