the Throttle Position Sensor tells the computer how far the throttle is open so it can calculate airflow, and automatically adjust the fuel flow, and ignition timing.

If a TPS (throttle position sensor) is going bad, you can have a rough or no idle condition, extremely poor acceleration, and many other symptoms.

The TPS(Throttle Position Sensor) works in conjunction with the MAP(Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor or MAF(Mass Air Flow) sensor as well as CTS(Coolant Temperature Sensor) and the engine RPM sensor to allow the ECM(Engine Control Module) to regulate the fuel flow to allow maximum performance.
Now your head will be full of letters.

It simply sends infomation to the ECU (your car's computer).
quite simply it tells the ECU how far open the throttle is. From there the ECU decides what to do. Increase fuel flow, send hotter spark to the plugs, downshift the transmission etc.
Savvy?
