Many possibilities, your description needs to be more clear.
What type of car, year make model, how did this come about all at once or did it start slowly, did it start right after a fill-up.....
Possibilities are numerous
Fuel filter, fuel pump, vacuum leak, alternator, bad fuel
electrical, ignition or coil problems....... just to name a few

Pretty sketchy info.. it would help to know what you have tried and what 'looses power' means (vs. coughs itself to death or just quits or whatever'. You are sorta like the guy that phones up the doctor and says ' I dont feel good what do I have?'.
But.. having said all that since your car starts we can assume some things and move to two possible items
Electrical.. somewhere in the ignition wiring you have a frayed or broken wire that makes an intermittent connection. This is not my first chioice.,
Fuel: You are not getting enough gas to your carb. system. You have a bad fuel pump, a blocked gas tank, or a gas filter that has done its job and is clogged. This is the most likely one since a little gas would seep thru when the car was off.. allow you to start the car but then the car would chug to death when it quickly ran out.
best I can do with what you have implied.

I wonder if there is gas in the tank?
Could also be a fuel pump relay.
