I do agree with you that the Mets need a pitcher. Never say never when it comes to Johan, it could happen. However, I do believe that the Mets will come up with a front line pitcher and will be in the mix again for a playoff spot in 2008.

I have to admit I am pretty upset with how Omar and Willie are handling this situation, especially Omar. When I've seen interviews of Willie, he seems a little uneasy under it all, as if to say: "All right guys, you've sent me up a creek without a paddle here and I can't say bad things about the front office or I'll get fired." Well, Omar frankly, is driving me nuts. He's being laughed around the GM circle, nobody is taking our offers seriously, and every day more and more pitchers are being gobbled up by others teams. And he's already waving the white flag. I think we'll probably land somebody, most probably a free agent like Bartolo Colon or Livan Hernandez, and although I'd take Santana, Haren, or Bedard over them anyday, they wouldn't be bad. Especially Colon. Sure he's played poorly the last two years, but he did win the Cy Young in '05, that's got to count for something...

Once the dust settles on Johan, Haren and Bedard, the Mets will see what they are left with. Their prospects dont have the same upside potential as the Yanks and Soxes, so they will lose out on the first two, they have the edge on Bedard because the O's are not willing to trade him within the division. If someone swoops them on Bedard then you look at the free agents and hope one of them bounces back a Bartolo Colon, Livan Hernandez or Carlos Silva would be the right fit, but because of the thin market you will end up overpaying for them.

No. With 5-man rotations pitchers only make, at most, 35 starts per year. To have no more than 5 losses and no-decisions in a season is ridiculous. The record for wins in a 5-man rotation is Bob Welch's 27 in 1990, and that was still 3 wins (or 10%) away from 30.

Johan is a possibilty, but nobody has heard of any rumors circling around him. It's a huge possibility that Dan Haren signs with the New York Mets, because Dan is looking for a $8.5 Million a year, and the Mets are apparentely looking at him, and offering $43 Million Dollars over 5 years. I think it could definitely happen, but Haren will probably sign with the Mets.
Now with Santana, the Twins management is looking for a couple of young, high potential players to trade for Santana. I'm guessing a good one would be Jose Reyes, a Util for Santana. It would be cool to see Santana on the Mets, and it would work for them greatly.

They NEED Johan but they wont get him or Dan Haren.
Look for them to sign Hernandez,Maroth,Shacon,Siva,or one of those type of #4's in a rotation via trade.

Yes, Johan is possible.
They could also pursue Bartolo Colon.

Bedard / Orioles...he's a lefty, young and Rick Petersen will be able to work with him just like Oliver Perez. Let the Yankees & Red Sox duke it out over Santana.

They need a pitcher but i don't see them getting Santana simply cuz they will need to include their SS in the trade and they wouldn't do that.
