Okay, so I've had my period for about a year and a half now and haven't used a tampon. I recently tried and it doesn't seem like it will go in! I know where it goes, in the hole after the anus. But I can't seem to get it in there. and no I'm not putting my finger in there, if I was going to do that I might as well use the tampon! Any ideas? I might just be too scared to put the tube in further. Oh and when I do try to put it in, it kind of hurts like I'm just pressing on skin down there and missing the hole. :p

the hole after the anus?? There's a hole after it?
It goes into your vagina. And if you read the insert in the tampon box you'd know how to put it in. There's a little drawing and everything!

1) Relax! Try not to worry about inserting the tampon right the first time. If you are tense it will make insertion harder.
2) The best time to practice inserting a tampon is during the heavy part of your period. The tampon should glide inside your vagina easily without any discomfort.
3) Decide if you prefer to insert the tampon standing or sitting. If sitting is your preference, sit on the toilet. If you want to try standing, putting one foot on the bathtub helps.
4) Hold the tampon applicator in your right hand if you are right-handed, or left if left-handed.
5) Use your thumb and middle finger to hold the bottom of the larger, outer tube.
6)Point the tip of the applicator toward your vagina, facing slightly towards the back. The smaller tube should be pointed away from your body.
7) Use your other hand to open your vagina.
Place the tip of the applicator at the opening of your vagina.
8) Gently push the smaller end of the applicator in until it is completely inside the larger outer tube. This pushes the tampon into your vagina and out of the tube.
9) With your thumb and middle finger still on the outer tube, release the smaller tube and let the strings dangle freely.
10) Gently pull the two tubes out together.
11) Dispose of the applicator according to the manufactuer's instructions.
12)When you are ready to remove the tampon, gently pull the withdrawl strings down and forward. The used tampon may be flushed down the toilet.

I used tampons for 8 years before i had sex, so the saying that virgins cant use tampons is false. The biggest problem I had was that I couldnt relax. you have to be calm and relaxed otherwise the muscles down there will not give and let you put that tampon in there. also, the angle is sometimes wrong. I found it difficult to put a tampon in the way the box says, i try doing it while sitting, because it seems like i can get it in there better and my muscles were relaxed more instead of standing and trying to balance. keep trying those small ones to make it easier on you, i hope i helped a bit!

When you first start using tampons get a box of Playtex SlimFits. They are made specifically for young teens and first-time tampon users. They have a plastic applicater for easier insertion, a rounded tip for comfort, and they are the smallest and most slender tampons on the market (They're about the width of your pinky finger!). To insert the tampon, use your dominant hand and put your thumb and middle finger on the finger-grips. Use your other hand to spread apart the lips/labia of the vulva and hold them open while you're inserting your tampon. Now get into a comfy position for insertion: you can sit down on the toilet, squat over the toilet, or you can stand up with one leg propped up on the toilet. Do whichever is easiest for you. Remember to relax your muscles to make insertion more comfortable and easier. If you're nervous your muscles will tense up and make insertion really difficult. When you're ready to insert, you should use the tip of the applicater and hold it at your vaginal opening. Then, gently push the applicater inside of your vagina while angling the tampon a little bit upwards, and then to the back towards your tailbone. Keep pushing the tampon in until the finger-grips are right outside of your vagina. After that, put your pointer finger on the skinny plunger and push it into the bigger applicater which is already inside of your vagina. Once the skinny plunger is pushed in completely, you can grab the finger-grips and pull out the applicater and toss it in the trashcan. The string will be left hanging outside of your body, so you can tuck that into your underwear. You should never feel any pain while using a tampon, when inserted correctly you shouldn't be able to feel the tampon at all. By the way, you should type your question into the Yahoo Answers search bar BEFORE posting your question - this question has been answered many times before. Anyways, after using tampons for 2 or 3 years, I strongly recommend switching to a menstrual cup because they are healthier, cheaper, more reliable, stronger protection, no risk of TSS, and are better for our environment. Best of luck!

put some lube on the tampon like vaseline. it will help make the applicator slide in more easily. also it may seem scary to put the tube inside you so far especially if you have never put anything inside your vagina before-- that's exactly how i felt the first time i used a tampon! take a deep breath and just do it. the first couple times you probably won't put it in as deep as you should but eventually you'll get the hang of it sweetie.

Calm down, if you're nervous that will cause your muscles to be tense. Read the little packet that comes in the tampon box for clear instruction and advice on how to insert it. You might also want to try putting a little lube on the tampon to help it go in. Also, you might want to try junior or slender tampons, which isn't as wide as regular ones.

Sit on the toilet, put the applicator in the hole leading to the vagina, hold the applicator and push the thing on the end all the way. Make sure you see the string. Good Luck.

That's how any tampon other than the ones with the plastic applicator have been for me. They're just too dry. Try Tampax Pearl!

You nee to put the applicator in at least half way, that is what the long string is for. It won't get lost up there. Your pain is coming from it not being far enough up, your body is pushing it out.
