If the goverment cuts the hand of the thief, i think after 2 or 3 hands cut, robbery will stop, i know it's a little brutal, but wouldnt that work???

No. It has not worked in the past. The practice goes back to the Hamurabi code and the Old Testament of the Bible: "an eye for an eye..."

Great idea.. Lets just take it one more step and allow parents to cut their own kids tongues out for lying, and go away with their hands for stealing cookies.... Maybe even more Salem Witch Hunts that was a real success huh? I know you are meaning if convicted in a court of law BUT how many times have these peoples convictions been turned around and found to be innocent of all charges? What are they suppose to do grow another tongue and hands? Be sensible...

I would be for it if one more thing was added - anyone that lies and gets someone falsely convicted of theft (leading to an innocent person losing a hand), especially if it is to protect the guilty person, should have their tongues cut out.

Actually it won't work. People will still engage in such activities for instance when people commit a murder they know that they run the risk of the death penalty and they still do it.
