I have always felt to help others is to help yourself. You become inured to nothing by ignoring those in need of help around you. To better understand how you can become a better person, helping others teaches humility as well as responsibility toward others. And the satisfaction is something that cannot be explained, only felt. In my opinion anyway.

I have been affiliated with a large charitable organization for over 15 years. I am a client casework supervisor, I listen and understand the problems people face on a day to day basis. I do try to help those get help through social service agencies for long term needs. I couldn't in good conscience just "drive by" and see and not do anything.
I can help people find necessary assistance howeever, they have to take the initiative to do something to help themselves as well. Many agencies require pertinent information that only the client can provide.

Honey, at my age, I know myself better than anyone one does - only my mother knew me better.

As for others? I spent a life time "reading" people and, as a Tour Director, had to get right into the groove with folks.

Sometimes, as I've grown older, I have made a coupla "snap judgements" that turned out not to be correct. It's made me think a little harder and take that extra instant towards understanding. Sure don't want to become one of those old grouchy people, stuck in their ways, who thinks they know everything....'cause I sure don't.

I TRY to understand....to take a walk in somebody else's shoes. Almost never keep driving by....yet, there are times, try as I might, I just DON'T understand. In those cases I just sorta shake mee head ...especially if I'm in NO position to garner more info...then if it's a scenario of some type that requires it, I say a prayer...for them and for my patience and tolerance.

i try to make this world a better place every day == i am always trying to improve my self and at the same time pass anything that i believe will help others -- i learned a long ago that if you just ignore a problem it just does not go away -- one thing that we seniors can do is vote yes vote and with email you can contact your congressman and let them know how you feel and tell him you are holding his feet to the fire!!!

I always try to understand others. Even when it means using some form of sign language or just plain old pointing.

Sometimes, but not all the time as some things do not bear analysis, just acceptance. You can never truly understand someone else anyway and if you lived your life trying to. then your head would implode!!

I certainly try to understand myself, esp. when I get angry...really try not to project my "stuff" on to others. Try to understand others...ummmm, as a retired psychotherapist I realize that that is a loosing battle....
