It really shouldn't be a problem. Cats are more scared of sudden noises and a baby makes lots of these. You can get "cat nets" to put over the crib if you are worried, but in our experience they are more likely to run in the opposite direction from a small unpredictable little person!

Pet cats are almost always just fine. Keep their nails trimmed every other week. Most cats just sniff the baby and then go away. As baby gets older and starts grabbing, be sure to have places for kitty to jump to.
Cats under 1 year old are babies themselves and can scratch or bite. I wouldn't leave them alone with the baby for this reason.
A very few cats (so few that my vet knows of only 2 cases in his 25 years as a vet) become aggressive. That is a case where rehoming is wise.

Generally, they are safe. As long as the cat doesn't have fleas and is in good health.
Our cat ran off a few weeks ago, but she was quite enamored with our son. We would just watch her really close. I don't think she knew what she was doing, but she'd sit up on her back feet when he was in the swing and take her paw and push the swing. It was very cute.
She never tried to mess with his face, we were very concerned that she would rub up against him. It's like she knew she shouldn't. She would rub against his feet alot.
We had this little bed thing that was for the floor and she would lay in it with him with her body at his feet alot. She freaked out and would hide when he got mobile though.

Just keep an eye on them, try not to leave the bedroom door open or moses basket on the floor so that can can jump in to them. My cat was great when my daughter was born, only once did I catch her in the moses basket, but then I had left it on the floor when I had gone out!!

No! They'll smell the milk on the baby's breath and suck the air from their lungs!
Someone actually told me that when I was pregnant with my son- she was serious too.
They're fine as long as they aren't overly aggressive. When the baby gets mobile you might want to keep the litter box covered :-)
My cat only comes near either of my kids when they're sleeping. I can't blame her. She's very tolerant of my one year old when he goes over and bugs her (like lays on her when she's eating). I think they know that babies are just babies, ya know?

It really depends on the cat, My cats were quite evil, and they had to be put up or adoption, my sisters cats are great, and would do fine with infants. Do you know your cats well enough to make that decision, is the question.
