It was really windy. My clothes dryer is in the garage. It's gas. Is it likely that the wind blew out the pilot light. That seems stupid, I know, but that's what someone told me.
What are some ways I can try to fix this myself?

Unless your dryer is pretty old it won't have a pilot. It would have electric ignition. Strong winds could keep it from lighting though. But if the wind has died down I would check to see if the wind possibly blew some lint into the combustion chamber keeping the ignitor from working. Lint could be blocking the gas orifice or be on the ignitor itself keeping it from making a spark. You should be able to brush it clear, use an old toothbrush.

Wow, JKYODY, (FYI), there is no element in a gas dryer. Now, there is also no pilot light in the dryer, there is, however, a glow igniter for the flame, that may be broken completely or cracked. Either way it won't allow the proper current to get to the coils that must activate to allow gas to flow thru the valve. There's also the possibility that a thermal fuse may have blown. Some models use a fuse that just keeps the flame from lighting, some use a fuse that stops the machine from running at all. It will depend greatly on how handy and how many tools, and what test equipment you have, as to whether you will be able to repair it yourself.

If it is a gas dryer, you should call the gas company, they will do things like that free of charge, .. It also may be the heating element in the dryer..

don't sound so stupid to me. ever try to light a match in the wind? check the pilot light, and find a less drafty place for the dryer.

hi bapo you assert it fairly is a gasoline dryer 5 years old - ok i'd say the 1st component to envision could be the popular and secondary coils - from time to time call the A & B coils the 2d component could be the motor no longer putting the electrical powered to that circuit - then the motor will could get replaced stable good fortune
