I have a vaxuhall astra t reg and the wipers seem to be playing a game when i use them. altough it went though the m.o.t like it it's very distracting when driving. it seems as though the parking brake has gone. When i put them on intermint they go up and sit there for a 1 or 2 then go down. When i put them on normal speed they work ok untill i shut them off then they just stop where ever. i've got a nack to stoping them now put would it be a big job to do myself (i have little skills though) or what would it cost at a rough figure?

Replace the wiper motor . The cost for replacement varies. Doing it yourself easily depends where the motor actually is, some car makers jam it up under the windshield and you have to remove alot of components to get to it, and sometimes it is right there in plain view. It just depends where your automaker put it.

The wiper motor is on the way out. Replacing it is a long job, but not particularly difficult.

interesting do they hold in the down position also...ie park where they are supposed to for a few seconds?...actually they could just be loose..did you try to see if the nut is tight?but it could be the latching control defective
