arkilus - lighten up, i am not making fun of NASA's safety protocols, merely saying why does it have to be news headlines. Its great they test and lives are saved but what about the people that have died or the problems that could actually cause death in the world?

Those of us who remember Challenger will never be dismayed at the idea of a delay. Maybe disappointed if you're in town for the launch and have to leave, but if it hadn't been for the eagerness to avoid further delays in January of 1986, seven fine people would not have lost their lives.

The launch was delayed because 2 of the 4 engine cutoff sensors are misbehaving which is a launch commit violation. They are probably pushing the launch back to January because if they launch too close to the holidays then the astronauts and all of the other people who are involved in mission control won't be able to be with their families for that time which would kind of suck for them.

And for the guy who thought it funny to make light of NASA's safety protocols... perhaps you'd rather they just say screw it, launch and risk an entire multimillion dollar mission and the lives of 7 more astronauts?

I'm definitely concerned as that shows there is something seriously wrong with the shuttle. My concern is for the precious lives that travel with the shuttle. A delay shows that at last they are more serious about the safety of astronauts.

The Shuttle launch was delayed?

There must be a small cumulus cloud at the launch abort landing strip or a $40,000 coffee maker is out of calibration or something.

You are right that most people don't care. That is why we have never been back to the Moon or tried to go to Mars. Not enough people care enough to spend the money needed.
