You see these black things on the front of cars in USA and wonder why they do it.

Why do they do it? I am sure it's not to add beauty.

It's intended use it to protect the paint and grille of the automobile from damage from small stones, sand and grit on the front of the car.

The intention is to preserve the beauty so bugs and stones don't ruin the paint on the nose of the car. If used properly they are useful.

It was a big trend/fad in the '80s. However, there really only good for a one at a time highway trip's because they fit so tight, if you leave them on all the time they rub through the paint damaging it reversing it's original purpose.

I known people that had front end damage from a fender bender so they would buy a bra to hide the damage.

Bugs are hard to get off the finish and many will damage the paint. Love bugs in Florida are especially bad. They come out in swarms to breed and when you plow through a swarm of them, there's little dead copulating bugs on the paint. If you don't wash them off quickly, the take the paint off.

Oh yeah, some people put bras on their cars to keep the front end from sagging.

Sometimes they think it looks cool, sometimes they think they're protecting it from stones and crap coming out of the dumptruck in front of you. Not all Americans do that. I think it was more popular back in the 80s anyway.

It protects the paint from dead bug goo that would eat the paint off.
