It means your system has the minimum amount of memory recommended to run Vista Home Basic,
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/systemrequirements.mspx
but if you install security software or try to multitask, you'll want to install additional memory.

That is the amount of RAM you have - Random Access Memory.
That should be enough to run vista at a decent speed, and to play fairly new games.
(a bit of computer knowlege is required to understand what ram is, but basicly it is memory that can be accessed in any order, regardless of what the last memory was. For example with a cassette player you must fast forward through all of the other stuff before you can find what you want. With RAM you can return any piece of information you want within a constant time.)
hope this helps

Figure it should be at least twice that amount for minimum performance. People are recommended 2GB these days for any sophisticated computing. Vista is a memory hog, you might want to install XP on this computer, it will be more effective than Vista without a memory upgrade.

well, DRR2 is probably referring to the amount of ram, and thats not a lot. I would recommend you go and buy 2gigs more, cus that will help the preformance greatly if you want to multi-task, or play any sort of game with good graphics.
but you might want to specify if its ram

It means your vista system will run poorly, you need at least 1gb of memory to get good performance.
