to safety after a rainstorm? Like if it was stuck on the street or sidewalk and didn't look like it was going to be able to make it to the ground to burrow into the soil? Did you get any satisfaction from helping it?

I stopped being afraid of bugs etc. The only ones I really don't like are the palmetto bugs, they are huge flying roaches that live in trees. My dogs love to play with flies, they are cheap puppie toys and can keep them entertained for hours.
There isn't too much cement or paving so worms are pretty safe here unless the robins get them. I used to buy lady bugs for the greenhouse to keep down aphids and other damaging bugs, but he greenhouse needs repair now

The vivarium needs to be at the correct temperatures (105F basking spot, 80-85F cool end) and you need to offer him something fatty to help weight gain. Something like morio worms would be good for this as they're easy to catch. You don't mention the age or size which determines how much food to give him. But DO NOT give him anything that is wider than the space between his eyes because this can cause impaction. Once he has started to take the food and is gaining weight, you need to move onto something healthier such as locusts and crickets as well as lots of vegetables (particularly greens). I hope he's okay and pulls through as they're great pets, hope I helped xxxxxx EDIT: I'm guessing he also hasn't had the correct nutrients so ensure that all of his food is dusted with vitamin and calcium powder do that he stays healthy and doesn't develop MBD, I would get some weight on him first though, good luck :)

On my walks with my dog I regularly pick up worms and put them safe from trampling feet and cars. My husband reckons I reached an all time low, though, the other week.....(anybody squeamish, look away now!)
We were playing golf and Hub hit into the sand trap, otherwise I would have missed the 6inch (15 Cm) black slug that was lying in the sand; its foot was covered in sand, which must have been very painful, so I picked it up, dusted it down and laid it in the rough. I got such a good feeling, then asked 'Did I just do that?' I even help crane flies (Daddy Long Legs) on their maiden flights as they crawl from their holes in the fairway. I sometimes surprise myself. ;-)
I was Funny Bun, but each day I become Funnier Bun ! LOL

A couple of years ago I was driving along the road and saw
a turtle in the road on its back. I stopped the car, picked up
the turtle, put it right side up in the grass beside the road,
turned it in the direction away from the road, and waited until
it crawled away into the trees. Luckily, there were no other
cars coming.
I felt good helping a defenseless, innocent creature survive.

How about a tiny lizard? One fell into my watering can last week, and there was a couple inches of water inside from a rainstorm we'd just had. I rescued it. Yes, I got satisfaction watching that little fellow rush back to the safety of his hole.

Yes I have saved worms, bugs, turtles. I can't even swat a fly. What really surprises me though is if I see a spider in my house I will get a broom and dust pan to take it outside. I have a great fear of spiders but it's when they surprise me that scares me the most. I was mowing between two pine trees and didn't see the huge web and spider between them until it was too late. Was I ever dancing!

Yes, I have helped out. As long as an insect is not roaming around in my house, there is no need nor my wish to kill it. We all have our place where we are allowed to live without fear of being killed.

Don't forget that there are many insects which are beneficial. Think about honey bees and bumble bees, as they are busy pollinating the plants. Unfortunately many people call the wasps/yellow jackets, the kind that is always present when you are having a picnic, bees. Honey bees and bumble bees R 2 busy flying from flower to flower, and they are not after you or your sandwich.

Hey, Wally, it's been so long since I've seen an earthworm. Ladybugs, Dragonflies, Butterflies, Oh, my! Mantises, fruitflies, and maggots all gone. Never fear. They'll return.

I know earthworms are very beneficial, and would never deliberately cause harm to one, but OH how I despise those arachnids! Any size, color or shape -- Especially the shiny ones.

With SOME, yes - like grubb bugs who were overturned on their backs and couldn't get up...and a cricket once and the daggum birdies who fly up into the stairwell in my building and then bang themselves against the windows trying to get out! lol

Yep - feels good...but will have to say if it's a bug I'm afraid of...they get no help from me!

Yes... my cats like to catch lizards ... toy with them, eat some of them... makes me irritated as the dickens! Why can't they go find a mouse or something? So, the cats and I get into it and I try to set the little buggers free! Had one hell of a fight with the Alpha female over a little rabbit, on Easter no less!!! Sadly, I lost and so did the little bunny!

I missed your little avatar face!
