I still don't understand why I was born with learning difficulties. My mom never did drugs or anything harmful when I was in her womb. She was never in a bad environment when she was pregnant with me. And there's no one in my family that has learning difficulties. In fact, majority of my family members excel in academic areas.

So how did I end up with learning difficulties?

They are genetic, but can skip generations. You are an individual. You are special. And, you are you. There is no one else like you. Learn how to cope with your difficulties and move on. Don't let them hold you back. You can go far in life.

I overcame many difficulties in my life! I have dyslexia and muscular dystrophy. I didn't let that hold me back. I graduated college with honors and now am in business for myself doing what I love.

Staci, we still have a very limited understanding of what causes a lot of learning difficulties.

There are a lot of these where science is just guessing. They are looking into all sorts of things - the pregnancy, the genetics, etc.

While we know a lot through science, there is far more that we don't know than we know. If you told someone 100 years ago we would land on the moon, send a rocket out the back of Saturn, have global TV through satellite, would have developed a vaccine for polio, eliminated smallpox (the list goes on) they would not have believed you.

So, we don't know. It might be genetics or it could be the luck of how things happened. Whatever you do, don't seek to blame anyone or yourself for how things have turned out. There are lots of web sites that have information about research into what causes different learning difficulties. Look it up on Wikipedia and they will have links from there.

I have a niece and a nephew with learning difficulties - and my niece was born to two of the smartest doctors I have ever met.

Peace

Learning disabilities are not only caused by environmental factors (your mom doing drugs or being neglected as an infant) or by genes that run in a family. Sometimes people just randomly have something go wrong as their brain is developing. Very few causes of learning disabilities have any known direct cause.

Learn what you can do well and then focus on those things. There is something you can do well - it may take awhile to figure out. My son cannot read or do math or tell time or many many things - but he is great at having conversations with people - so now he has his own business where he sells tshirts.

Of course it is possible to be born with learning difficulties without there seeming to be a reason. One of my children has autism, the others don't have any difficulties. I don't know where the autism came from or why she got it. I do however love her because she is special and so different from her siblings. She has taught us so much including tolerance and not to judge people too quickly. She is one of the most interesting people I know and I wouldn't change her. Even though her siblings have it tough sometimes I know they wouldn't change her either. Accept your difficulties because I am sure you more than make up for it in other ways. And don't let your learning difficulties hold you back. Good luck.

A lot of children are born with learning disabilities. Some can come out deaf even or with out eyes. It is rarely known why. Also an early illness can cause these. I caught Meningitis when I was nine months old and it gave me two leaning disabilities. Meningitis when I caught it one did not even go to the hospital, for it was much lighter then. One of my disabilities includes slow at typing. But cash reg.s I was great at.

Why does my uncle have dyslexia? My grandmother didn't drink or do drugs, when she was pregnant with him, but his wiring in his brain just shorts out in a certain area. For a long time we though he was the only one, but I was finally diagnosed with a learning disability in my early twenties. We discovered that I am dyslexic with numbers. A known first in my family. It's just something that happens, but it is also what makes us stronger in some ways, and unique. It is what makes us, us.

Pretty much what everyone has said.
ANYTHING could have caused it. Sometimes - it JUST happens.

There are over 2500 types of conditions that causes Intellectual disability - but yet.... 80% of people with intellectual or developmental disability has NO official diagnosis as to WHY. It "just happens".

I additionally think of that human beings carry being married plenty greater then merely being in a dating. once you get married what's certainly going to alter? Do you reside mutually now? proportion a mattress? save, consume, play and cry mutually? Why unexpectedly are issues going to be greater complicated merely with the aid of fact of a hoop a ceremony and a splash bit paper? you ought to no longer situation approximately what is going to take place, merely take exhilaration in what's. from time to time as quickly as we situation we reason greater undue rigidity then we avert.
