I'm writing a series of science-fiction books where the main characters an M2F transsexual and I came up up with the name of her spaceship before I decided her character and all I'd thought about was making her feminist at the time so I wanted the ship's name to mean feminine so I looked in the thesuarus and came accross the word "Effeminate" and I just thought it meant feminine and not that it meant feminine man, so I named the ship that.
Do you think I'd be ok naming the ship "Effeminate" seen as the main character owns the ship and is an M2F transsexual?
(The ship was actually built before her transition according to the book so she was technically effeminate at the time it was being built as she was still a boy)(in the books you only ever see her life after the transition but it doesn't focus too much on her being transsexual anyway as it's about a war and not about her being transgendered but I don't want to offend anyone and I've been told that's easy to do)

I think the name for your ship is fine. I really don't think anyone would have a problem with. And if they was to have a problem, why the hell carry on reading it. Personally i think it's about what you believe. After all it is your story!

Sorry, but 'Effeminate' is a terrible name for a spaceship. You might as well call it 'Hello Sweetie'; it would attract the same sort of ridicule in the bars and dives of the spaceports she will visit!

Since your stories are set during a war you might want to consider using a name from an historical warship or event from your character's cultural background. If they're Spanish-descended, for instance, you might call it something like 'Siroco' or 'Mistral' - both current Spanish Navy ships.

I think it may come across as a bit too obvious even though you didn't intend it that way from the start. I think the Latin form of feminine is Augusta - so maybe try that or August, Agusta or some abbreviation like Gus or Gussie.

Good luck!

if you think it's the best name why change it?, you should know it's your story.
i think it's a good name if you want the name to go with the character, but not so good for a spaceship in general.

It gave me a chuckle.
You probably don't want that though.
So you may want to re-think the spaceship's name.
Luck--
