At first glance it might look hard or a little tricky but take it one step at a time and you will find out it is not that bad.

Combine like terms. In this problem they are [ - 7^2, -6(3+2), - 29] and [5w, 7½ w].

5w - 7^2 -6(3+2) = -29 + 7½ w
5w - 7*7 - 18 - 12 = - 29 + 7½ w
5w - 49 - 18 - 12 = - 29 + 7½ w
5w - 79 = - 29 + 7½ w
place variables to the left and numbers to the right
5w - 7½ w = - 29 + 79
5w - 7½ w = 50
- 2.5w = 50
- 2.5w/ - 2.5 = 50 / - 2.5
w = - 20

5w - 7² - 6(3 + 2) = - 29 + 7 1/2

5w - 49 - 6(5) = - 29 + 15/2w

5w - 49 - 30 = - 29 + 15/2w

Collect like terms

5w - 79 = - 29 + 15/2w

Transpose 79

5w - 79 + 79 = - 29 + 15/2w + 79

Collect like terms

5w = 50 + 15/2w

Multiply both sides of the equaton by 2

2(5w) = 2(50) + 2(15/2w)

10w = 100 + 15w

Transpose 10w

10w - 10w = 100 + 15w - 10w

Collect like terms

0 = 100 + 5w

Transpose 100

0 - 100 = 100 + 5w - 100

Collect like terms

- 100 = 5w

Divide both sides of the equation by 5

- 100 / 5 = 5w / 5

- 20 = w

It's easy, just sort of long.

5w-49-18+12=-29+(7)1/2w

5w-55=-29+(7)1/2w

-26=(2)1/2w
w=-52/5

As long as there is an understanding of how to raise numbers to a power, distribute, isolating the variable you are solving for, it should be easy.

5w - 49 -30= -29 + 7.5w
-2.5w = 50
w = -20
