let me start that the obvious is not always good.--smaller pads(goalies arre already complaining that they will get injured more)- and or larger goal post.--to me what would be a simpler solution and shouldnt rattle too many cages is this. The defense or any player can't dive on the ice to block the shot. You see that a lot nowadays.Basically you shouldnt leave your skates to block a shot .To me thats logical and will produce a lot more goals especially on the power play. Where, by the way, the stats for scoring are down on the pp and are reflective of all goals down in the league this year.--ELIMINATE DIVING! what do you think of this solution?

Cam B took the words out of my mouth ... I never understood why kicking the puck in wasn't allowed. I think that and perhaps increasing the rink size to international/olympic standards would help increase scoring a bit and make the game more exciting.

People
Prior to 1987, any shot that went in off a skate was no goal. Whether or not there was a kicking motion or not, it was not a goal. For the 1987-88 season, the rule was changed. I would prefer to go back to the original goal. Using the foot to score is for soccer/football. Hockey requires sticks.

Again, until the mid 70s, any goalie that played a loose pick in the corner was given a warning by the referee. It was frowned upon. There was no rule change made but as the 70s wore on, more and more goalies were playing the puck behind the goal line (something that was rarely seen prior to expansion)

What's going to stop people from blocking a shot? You can't just say they can't do it. Like you tell a toddler they can't do something they just listen to you? If you gave everyone a 2 minute penalty for doing something they're supposed to do then the game is going to get very slow because people are going to hesitate. They're not hurting anyone or interfering in a play. They play is done, the shot is taken and they block it. They already screwed up the game by telling the goalies they can't play a free puck. Why do goalies even have sticks anymore? If they can't use them behind the goal then just let them kick the puck with their skates. Give them an option of having two trappers instead of a stick. What a stupid idea (the creases, not yours) I feel like telling the guy who made that change some of my thoughts.

Maybe have this piece of steel that comes up from under the rink and goes up and down through the whole game? Get rid of goalies all together.

In a general sense only, if a team can score 5 goals in a game, and if that occurs about 2 to 3 times a week, then I say leave the game alone. I don't like a wide-open game - nor do I like the "trap" style of defense. The on-ice game has had enough alterations already.

I don' think the game ever needed change, all these changes are ruining hockey as we all knew it. Smaller pads I can see. But changing the net is too much. And no leaving your skates to block shots that's WAY too far. I personally think that the NHL doesn't need more scoring. Hockey isn't a sport where you want more than 4 goals in a game. The lower the score the better the game.

The one rule I think should be eliminated when it comes to scoring goals is the rule that you can't kick in the puck. There have been many goals where the guy didn't even kick, and the goal was still reversed. This call is based completely off of the view of the referee, and is stupid.

As for diving, diving is completely fair. Maybe if you are lucky the guy gets injured from the puck, goes and tackles the shooter, and the benches clear. If that ever happens, thank diving.

i've got been staring on the NHL community at present and the main important distinction between the Gretzky era and now's the goaltending. those men have been tiny!! Watch an previous activity from the early 80's and watch one from right this moment and there's a huge distinction in the quantity of area those men consume up. for occasion, between the excellent goaltenders of that element grow to be Billy Smith. He grow to be 5'10" 185lbs. J.S. Giguere is 6'one million" 210lbs. plus the extensive equipment those men the place, there is amazingly little risk to attain a purpose. The NHL will by no skill see yet another participant come on the brink of the 70 purpose club as long as they permit the goalies to the place jerseys 6 cases there length. The gamers in the league at present are merely as experienced, if not greater, than those of that era. the adaptation is in the goaltending. Make those men ought to the place the pads they used to positioned on and then we are able to verify scoring bypass up. 5 targets in line with activity is merely too low. they must get it in the 7-8 variety after which you will see greater national coverage. no you're able to tell me that if a cutting-edge participant grow to be remaining in on Gretzky's numbers for single season archives that a significant community does no longer p.c.. those video games up.........

I like the smaller goalie pads idea but def. not no diving to block a shot i mean thats part of the game. You knowing having the guts to take a shot for the team. It would also be hard to judge if the meant to block the shot it woulod just create contreverse. Althoguh the smaller goalie pad idea is good.

Install indoor soccer goals, eliminate goaltenders, put in a 3-pt line, allow pucks hit by a high stick or kicked in to count, make the whole game 4-on-4 and make all infractions, even offsides, penalty shots! If that doesn't work, alcohol and firearms.

GET SERIOUS, PEOPLE!!!!

Shot blocking has been a part of the game for a long time and I don't want to see it eliminated.
How about the goalie can't leave the blue ice and play the puck? This forces them to stay back in the net, keeps the play moving since they can't smother the puck as much and gives the shooters more net to look at.
