Did you ever wonder what those who invented things did before they invented them?

I think a lot of times they are in a field entirely different than the field where there inventions are used because they are able to look at a need from a fresh perspective and see things differently that someone who looks at the same facts and needs on a daily basis. The Wright Brothers for example were bycicle repairmen before their airplane flight.
