Do you ever wonder why you like this music and not that. Or you like a certain book, or movie, or game, etc. What is it about them that makes you enjoy them? It could be something about it, or maybe the way other people who like it are. What draws you to some things and not others?

That's a great question. And have you noticed that your tastes change over the years? I look back and am horrified at what I used to think I liked.

For example...I wanted a white car with a black hard top. Make didn't matter. What was that about? I don't even like cars. I drive whatever gets me around. But that color scheme seemed so important to me at the time.

My music tastes haven't changed though I appreciate more types with the exception of HipHop which shouldn't be classifed as music. People like Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen. Then Led Zepplin, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young will always be my favs.

I think tastes reflect your personality. As we go though life stages they may change a little but I think basically remain the same. Makes for an interesting world.

I think it depends on your life experiences and/or how you were raised. If you were raised in a latin country, you will probably like latin music. If you were raised in the south there is a high probability that you will like country music, etc...It also depends on certain events that occurred in your life. If your father was a drunk and he beat you every time he listened to rock music, you will most likely grow up hating rock music, and liquor.

I do believe we are always being tempted so our likes and dislikes are not up to us it is all Gods will and I know for most people this is not what they believe. I do . I will say for as far as my likes I love reggae and think of it as Gospel music I like the blues because I have to play them in my band. I know these are gifts from God. but I like a drink of vodka or rum and I know they are gifts too but I also know drunkenness is bad and I don't like that. so a lot of things go hand in hand like I like reggae but not the music that had been perverted into something else like reggae tone I love mango but hate artificial mango flavoring or smell. do you see how a good and pure thing can be perverted into something else and that is what I wonder about why do people like that . I love sex with my husband but I hate the idea of porn and perverted sex see the good and bad in most everything.to like things and to be moderate with them is what God wants but to mess with it so you can like it more or change it to make it desirable in a new way is confusing to me.

Schopenhauer says that: "A man can do as he will, but not will as he will." (i.e. - we can choose our actions but not our desires)
