Big Brother Quote

If you had read the book you'd know, but since I need some points, i'll answer...

Big brother is the omniscient power that rules the world. The Party (ruling political group) uses the term "Big Brother is watching" to control the thoughts and actions of the people. Big Brother always knows what everyone is doing, feeling, thinking, etc. So the people are always under the control of Big Brother and The Party.

It's been a while since i've read the book, so i can't remember what the revolutionary group called themselves, but at any rate, the group of people who were committing thought crimes and what not used "Down with Big Brother" as their slogan. Very plain and simple. But the book has many twists and turns and nothing really is as it seems, so i suggest you read it.

I guess you read "1984" by Orwell?
Maybe there's a language problem, something about slang? Because the statement "Down with Big Brother" is otherwise pretty self-explanatory. It means bring Big Brother down, pull that down, and kick it out so it is all over... finished. Done.
See?

I read both but 1984 has stuck in my mind as being the creepiest. I think about it often when I feel like Big Brother is encroaching on my life.

Winston Smith, the main character of 1984 who works at the Ministry of Truth, or Minitrue for short, had written this quote in all caps until it filled half a page, because he hates the Party's lies. He subsequently wrote, "theyll shoot me i dont care theyll shoot me in the back of the neck i dont care down with big brother they always shoot you in the back of the neck i dont care down with big brother".

i read it a bit ago- yes big brother is the all-seeing dictator of 1984. i remember that the underground rebels have a special book thing and i think the quote is something winston says or thinks as the ultimate act of rebellion- no wait, i think he writes it in his illegally-kept diary, possibly the first thing he writes or if not he repeats it a lot.

It means we don't want government surveillance watching our every move. We don't want a police state.
